Been looking to buy one. Are they worth it? I have two room humidifiers right now. House is an "A" frame home. Will windows get condensation?
Got a quote to install one for $900 from a HVAC company.....

I wouldn't live without a whole house humidifier. It's great for your health and for your house. Also saves a little money on the heating side. When you home has proper humidity, you can lower the temp on your thermostat. The new models automatically will adjust to the humidity outside so it doesn't "rain" inside your house. Set it and forget it...

The price seems a little high. It should be in the $600-$700 range. I had a new one installed last year and I believe it was $685.

Where did you buy it at? Any installers you recommend (if you are in the northwoods)
do your research. Call local HVAC contractors and ask them.

I use General air model 1137 and am very happy with them. I do wish they had a little more capacity but other than that easy to change the media and have been reliable for the most part. Supply hot water to them for more efficiency. Installer will usually install on the cold water side unless you ask them not to. It's not to code during new construction but if it's added on later most contractors won't be too concerned about it.

Excellent point on the hot water! Make sure they install it on the hot water side.

Aprilaire bypass units for forced air are less than $200 plus install for a 3000 sq ft house. Mine was originally installed with a manual control which you have to turn up or down dependent on outside temps. Currently it is connected to a ecobee thermostat set at 36% so it will adjust according to outside temps automatically. No static no window condensation no dry noses. Top 5 best household purchase ever and the service every year is a simple pad change and close the bypass damper from summer to winter.
