For the sixth straight year, BRP has taken the lead in promoting avalanche education and awareness by sponsoring nearly 60 free seminars in North America. Open to all snowmobilers, the seminars offers fresh, renewed and relevant content and will be held in local dealerships starting late September. Click here for the full schedule [choose Avalanche Seminars in the pull-down menu].

More than 10,000 people have attended these seminars the past few years. That's why BRP and its instructor-partners work every off-season to refresh the content so first-time or returning attendees will be actively engaged. Snowmobilers are encouraged to bring their friends and riding buddies to ensure that those they ride with are well-informed.

"BRP strongly believes in the seminars' values and recognizes the need for snowmobile specific outreach and education," said Mathieu Laforest, global Ski-Doo marketing director. "BRP and our dealers work with avalanche experts to design and deliver courses to owners of all brands that are effective at engaging, educating and entertaining snowmobilers."

10514505_761422413896417_5079357548591196324_nSeminars in Canada will be handled by Jeremy Hanke, a recognized avalanche professional, a member of the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) advisory board and one of the creators of Throttle Decisions, an avalanche safety awareness video. Jeremy is an AST 2 certified instructor.

Mike Duffy of Avalanche 1, a recognized snowmobile expert in avalanche awareness, leads classes in the United States. Mike has American Avalanche Association Level I & II and AvPro level III certification, teaches at Colorado Mountain College and Silverton Avalanche School and has been giving snowmobile-specific avalanche classes since 1996. That is what is nice about ridding in the U.P. no worries about snow taking you out...Kind of like the great lakes no jelly fish and sharks.
Rode 1 time out of Cooke and was with folks that have had classes and learned later we were in one of the worse places possible to stop sledding forever.
On the other hand if you planning a western or mountain trip I would highly encourage these classes and pay attention..
Even if you have been told what to do or not to do attend one of these or 2 for that fact...
Big elevation mountain ridding is not my cup of tea as I am afraid of heights but I LOVE the lower stuff and away from the very steep.

Yes — "ridding" yourself of "worries about snow taking you out"! :p

So you'd prefer to "rid" yourself of "high elevation experiences" too! :p

(I guess being a desert rat, I'm in an ornery mood with the "blazing heat" in the Arizona desert today — a high of 67°F after a morning low of 56°F in Phoenix, an expected low of 48°F and high of 65°F tomorrow … and freeze warnings and a forecast of 8"+ of snow in Flagstaff today/tonight! -- Eat yer hearts out you Midwesterners/Great Lakes sled jockeys! :D)

Cooke is not for the weak of heart. It is my second favorite place to ride other than Togwotee. Plenty of places to die at Cooke. Mount Henderson is one that comes to mind for me.
