Lower has a great trail system and lots of snow. In fact most NWL and Central Lower snow belts have gotten ~~
100 inches so far... below normal. But for all the low snow talk and the UP being the ONLY place with snow, that not true. 12814601_954043481316724_3515368470889277264_n.jpg I get those of you in MN WI this may not be doable, but what about all youse IL, IN OH ?
This was pulled from a friends FB taken this afternoon somewhere around Mio MI. If I was trailering, I'd be all over this.

I've often wondered that myself. Along with the eastern U.P. But I'm okay with that being a dirty little secret. :)

Development has killed a decent chunk of the trail system in the LP, unless you go way north.

There is a service that will trailer your sled across the bridge, at least there was 10 yrs ago

If there are good places to ride there without crazy traffic, I need to get in on that secret. Seems like whenever they get good snow, it's gone quick too

And the answer is: Yes! See (click →) Mackinac Bridge Authority, FAQs,

Q:
I would like information on snowmobile crossings. What are the times and days that we can be trailered across? What is the fee? Thank you.
A::
The Mackinac Bridge Authority will transport snowmobiles across the structure at a cost of $15 per sled one way, plus $3.50 for each additional rider. The service is provided daily from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and is offered on an "on call" basis.

The designated loading areas are the Travel Information Center on Nicolet Street in Mackinaw City and on Service Drive immediately north of US-2 in St. Ignace. Please call the Mackinac Bridge Authority at 906-643-7600 to arrange for pick-up. Customers will be required to sign a liability waiver form before utilizing the service.

For those customers preferring to trailer their own snow machines northbound, there is a public parking area in St. Ignace at the St. Ignace Marina located on the I-75 Business Loop. Parking in the City Marina is free.

This FIB will go anywhere there is decent snow, but it is all about time in the truck versus riding. I can get to the UP in five hours and to get to the upper part of the Lower it is seven and then dealing with having to go through Chicago to get there. I would as am always wanting to try something new. I've to the Traverse area and i'm sure the Jordan Valley, etc. would be great!

From NW Wisc. it's too far of a drive for say...a 4 day trip. If I'm going to dedicate week to snowmobiling, it's going to be in Ontario or Quebec.

Personally I've heard nothing but good things about the Lower......just too far away.

Take 80/90/94 around the south side of the lake a few times with a trailer and you'll get the picture as to why people don't head that way from Illinois.

Heck, I'd be trying to keep it a secret..Hehe. Keep the crazies away. If I still had a sled, I'd head straight north rather than go around the lower end of the pond. Who the heck wants to deal with that traffic mess? As for the distance, it would probably be the same for me, but the time would be more with the traffic situations. I assume that's the case for most. I-39/51 north is a pretty easy shot for a lot of people, with no real traffic snarles. As for the IL and IN folks, I guess I see your point...

I managed to find trails like that all year, this year in the Western LP, and that's only 3.5 hrs from my house much better than driving 8-9 hrs to the Western UP, Don't get me wrong I love the UP area but every weekend is not doable that far...
