Why Snowmobiling Will End

maybe its a generation thing, but I recall as a KID< being dragged to DO things, didn;t matter IF I wanted to or not, or if I even had anything to do with what NEEDED doing
if DAD was working, putting up signs, his KIDS were TOO
no option to stay home and play video games or what ever kids to today
as we kids got older we either grew into JOINING the "WHAT EVER" be is snowmobiling or hunting(put up way more posted signs than trail signs)
but it instill din me the concept of DOING things needed doing, so you could reap the rewards later on!

its a quality I see missing in many generations, that want everything NOW< push a button(touch a screen) fast
and physical work scares off so many too,
when's the last time you seen a kid use a shovel, to dig in DIRT!
just look at how many today don't know how to change a tire on there vehicle? or WOULD if they could, rather someone else do it for them! regardless of costs!
we have been come a world of Soft people, hard work left the lifestyle of too many,. as did solid work ethic's IMO!

Mrbb it is all in how you raise the child. I have a 16 year old that drives tractor (I would not recommend this for a lot of kids) can change tires on farm equipment, and is not afraid of working. 2 daughters that milk cows, and the youngest 2 do what they can. My ten year old gets into more trouble taking things apart, because he doesn't know how to get them back together. Some of them want to go to college, some don't. The one thing I will give them in life is a work ethic. It will never fail them.

If my mother had her way the sleds would be gone. Good thing I never do what she says!! They will ride sled any day over the TV or computer, and that's the way I prefer it.

I think at the rate we get snow anymore, its going to be loss of snow in winter time that kills this sport LOL

Of course trends generally work themselves out over large time periods, what we call "the law of large numbers" in my industry but I can only comment what is/has occurred over my past 20ish years of life living in the Green Bay, WI area.
From about 1997 to 2014 I used to say "if the trails have not opened by Super Bowl Sunday they will not open" and that was pretty accurate.
For the winters of 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 I have the start of a new trend that the trails near my home have not opened at all.
Both of these sure feel like a change in winter trends but time will tell, sad though as I am at the height of my income and can afford a new sled, truck and trailer and hotels as I like.
Another 5-10 years and I will be back to a $2k sled that I would keep for the back 40 and rent once a year or so.
THAT WOULD BE THE END OF SNOWMOBILING TO ME! I need snow now dammit!

Snowmobiling is going to end just like everything else in the country. Our youth have no work ethic, as stated above, and the entitlement era is way past a joke in my opinion - no one wants to work or put any effort into things. That and the cost of anything now a days is astronomical.

ha ha I have enlisted my son in law to help with a project and he's freaking out he may have to use some muscle power = work, scraping/sanding by hand. He wants a magic machine and stand back n press a button.

No worries....
Some ppl thought i'd never amount to anything.

Every generation sees the next as lacking and worrisome.

I know some still have traits of the way it was yrs back, but you and your kids are NOT the majority of how kids are and the past maybe 2+ generations IMO
where they DON"T live as rural as many once did
the world wide web has taken away a lot of the mystery's we all once maybe had, and NOT knowing something is out there, you didn;t miss it maybe
a LOT of spoiled kids out there today, that have too many things given to them they DIDN"T earn IMO
which sure isn't helping matters
I get it TIMES CHANGE, and not saying they don't
its just at what costs are things changing

I know what you mean about most kids. Sometimes my kids say but my friend's don't have to come home and do anything. My response is good for them do your chores. We let them have friends over to ride Snowmobile in the fields. The friends parents say my children are spoiled, but they don't have all the technical stuff that they're friends have. My kids want an x box they're friends want snowmobiles. Can't make them happy.

Bear - I mark the trails in Howard and it's almost depressing seeing how few people show up for marking. We keep marking them to make sure land owners know that we are still there but the number is dwindling fast.

We used to ride where the YMCA in Howard is straight to Duck Creek and then onto the Bay and trail systems. The last time we did that was over 10 years ago and we were running from cops all the way down Cardinal.
