Wolf

Me and my son were on some forest roads last weekend just south of the Kenton, Sidnaw area and the one trail looked like a dog run it had so many wolf tracks on it. You could see how the tracks would brake off the trail then come back on down trail, doing there hunting.

I understand it's their kill technique, distract from one direction and attack from another. We were riding in the National Forest last winter and saw fresh wolf tracks on the trail.
then we came upon a fresh deer kill....it was still steaming! What a horrible death and to be ambushed. We could see they came from 2 directions. DNR hunting guide said each
wolf eats about 30-50 deer a year. The scariest part is they seem to be losing their fear of humans.
My husband was "still" hunting 2 years ago near Bruce Crossing and 3 huge wolves came running by, he could hear them panting but they didn't see him. Then he heard wimpering and
there was a young wolf watching him. It ran off. I no longer feel safe in the woods alone. It's time for anyone who goes alone in the woods to be armed! I don't even think a rifle would
be completely effective against a pack of wolves...what do you suggest? I should get my husband a gun for his birthday as I worry about him alone all day in the woods during deer season.
I've read better studies and wolf eats est.15-20 deer per year and thats from Wis. and Minn. Michigan U P has less deer than Wis. probly be less. DNR ues a lot of hype in their messages. A few times a month at night around here can hear some animal getting ripped a new one. Way worse sounding than just the howls which are pretty common. Beside a fire arm Bear pepper spray is good to carry in the bush. Need to be down wind though and has a shelf life. Works pretty good on any thing with nose or eyes. The better they smell the better it works. Like you say if you see a wolf check behind you too. They usually will run but if they go out of their way to mess with you they will wait a long time before they give up.

I really didn't think anything of it. Kinda stupid move on my part. I knew i had to get moving when i could hear the other sleds yelling at me to go with helmets on and sleds running. Amazing what people do for a picture!
