I heat 50 percent wood 50 percent natural gas 2,000 square feet not well insulated 4 to 5 cords a season! I am burning old ash if it was good oak I would reduce the number of chords to 3!

Beats me I never was clear on cords just cut, split, stack & burn then do it all over again.lol Face cords, full cords 1/2 cords all greek to me. I do like sitting by the fireplace stove insert after a ride to dry the cold sweat off my back. Also like zoning staring at fire thru glass letting my mind wander.:)

X'2 on the zoning!

Had 3 full cords of Beech vanish last season off of my property :(
I have a plan in place to catch the woodchuck that has been helpng them self.

Last year I installed a wood burner. Energy King forced air furnace. Also heating the potable hot water with it. Found it on Craigs list. It was in a foreclosed house and the new owner was tearing it down. Got the thing for 250$. Turns out it was made in 2006 and is stil under warranty. New the thing cost over 4k. The only catch was it was in a basement that the stairs were removed from.

I made a crib of split wood (Beech, Yellow Birch, Maple)
12' x 12' about 10' high
I ended up using 80% of the wood. 0 propane! :)

The house is about 2500 square feet.
