Wood or Gas Fireplace?

First answer is the right answer.

Think of it like an automatic sprinkler system in the yard vs toting around hoses to water. Both give the same end result.

Do your research on whatever you decide. The technology has changed a lot in recent years. There are quite a few options on efficient wood burning units that will not give you a net loss on heat.(The older wood fireplaces actually lost heat overall)

There are a lot of newer gas units that also look pretty cool. You are not stuck with the conventional fake log fire style. Take her shopping and look at the various styles.

We are lucky to have a local company that distributes some pretty neat stuff.

They have some unique wood and gas fireplace options.

I would say wood all the way...who wants the gas bill any higher? A cast iron Franklin Fireplace works great (you can find them on the Wisconsin Craigslist for $150 and up), its really nice to look at and the real wood smell.... If you have property that you can harvest wood from its free heat and splitting wood by hand is a darn good workout!
