I think the UP will be rideable by Jan. 1. Not sure on the swamps and stuff being froze.

West Yellowstone has good trails. I took my Switchback out a few years ago for my wife to ride. No problems, they groom decently. I didn't change clutching at all and it worked fine. Performance wasn't perfect, but fine if you wasn't being a Ricky racer.

Never been to Black Hills but have heard good things.

We are going to Big Sky ( just north of west Yellowstone) the second week in Jan. with the long tracks.

Edit, second week in Feb not Jan.

black hills if they get hit for sure. looks like CO will be the jackpot state this yr. so that said grand lake is prob one of the most trail friendly spot in the state

but it is usually a ez drive and the view is irrelevant if u roll out after work. usually only gets remotely hard driving for that last 1/2 hour out of deadwood otherwise little to no snow or turns

The Black Hills fit your description. If no snow here, go to the Hills.

We were there about 12 years ago for a week. By far the best smoothest trails every day, for the week, that I have ridden on.

It might be a hike from MN, but Wawa, ON might be an option by then. Chances are it will still be cold enough there in January, and with the big lake probably warm, they should get pounded all winter by lake effect. At least that's what I keep telling myself. It takes a lot of snow for them to open their trails though because of the terrain.'

Black Hills and the Snowies are next are our list, if the Midwest is dry and we want to take our short tracks. If we go further into Wyoming or into Colorado, would probably drive a car and rent.

Little traffic, big snow predicted. As of now 112" YTD Wolf Creek Pass. Rode the 93" storm last March around WC. Awesome area to ride.

... And Snowest.com forums have locals that give daily weather/ trail conditions. I believe one of them is a DNR officer, so he knows the area like the back of his hand and gives really good updates.

I would deff call first. but they can get hit hard. remember all the livestock that got killed last yr?
I have never seen ridable snow in deadwood and it is usually thin in lead but 3 min out of town there it is. always deeper at trailshead lodge than rec springs.
deff warm riding most of the time

How about here, I'd love to ride this! Screenshot_2015-12-04-08-44-43.jpg
At the border of Sweden and Norway, lies a stretch of land 1010 miles long. Creating one of the most beautiful snowmobile paths in the world.

x2 on the hit or miss - I used to live in Sioux Falls SD - only 5 hours to the black hills but you really needed to get there before the storm and understand it gets really warm out there-
on our way to the big horns 15 years ago we got stranded in in Deadwood- interstate closed - 8 feet - we stayed there and it was fantastic but in 5 days you could see bare spots on the sun exposed parts of the trail. - still good riding for a few more days though-we headed back east -honestly we must have met 500 trailers on I -90 - we just smiled knowing we got the best if it- just by luck
