Great Engine but thats it. Polaris,Skidoo, and Arctic-Cat all make better hi-performance trail sleds. They don"t handle very well. Yes I have driven one.

The Nytro was never meant to be a traditional "sit down" or "high performance" trail sled, that is what the Apex is for. Good motor and reliability. I'll take it anyday over a two stroker!!

Having owned both the 08 short track Nytro and a 09 Nytro XTX I do agree that the Nytro has some issues. Darting, hyfax wear, front end gets sloppy, small fuel tank, and hand warmers are the main issues of the Nytro. The darting is an easy fix with dual carbides or better aftermarket skis (I run the Curve XS skis). The hyfax will last longer with bigger wheels or the new OEM DuPont inserts sound like they are bullet proof. The front end can be improved with oilite bushings. I still had issues with the spindle failing so I upgraded to a new Zbroz front end. Fuel tank can be replaced with the Trail tank. It sounds like the hand warmers are improved with the new MY 12 sleds. I put foam in the handlebars on my 08 and my 09 is warm enough for me.
Even with all of the above issues, I am still very happy with Nytro. The engine, seat position, and looks are what make me really like the sled.

My brother has an 09 Nitro. I rode this thing when he it was new and it rode like a ton of bricks - pretty much wanted to go in a straight line and required a lot of effort to drive. He also had problems with the hand warmers, hyfax wear, and ice build-up in the tunnel. He replaced the hand warmers with after-market and added an extra bogey wheel to fix two of those problems. He still gets a lot of ice build up in the tunnel - sometimes 20-30 pounds of it! Now for the handling. He replaced the skis with Ski-Doo pilot skis and I think replaced the bushings as well. This also allowed him to widen the front end. All the shocks were revalved as well. He replaced the coupler blocks with something from an Arctic Cat sled and maybe did one other minor thing to the rear tunnel. He also spent countless hours trying to find the magic set of settings on the suspension. I have rode it now with all these tweaks and it rides decent - way better than before. I could actually probably get use to it. Still more effort than my 2011 Ski-Doo but not too bad. He rides it very aggressively in the trail and has no trouble keeping up with anybody. The engine has always been strong. Last year I bought an 800 etec and he didn't like it when I spanked him. So he went to non-ratcheting drivers, a 1.5" track with studs, and dropped the gears. Meanwhile I dropped the gears on my 800 etec and studded it. His mods made a huge difference. He now stays even with me till about 60mph and he actually picked up additional top-end (weird). He has beaten a stock 800 etec renegade with this. He also has beaten Attak sleds up to 90mph. This thing is quick. I'd say its a nice sled NOW...it was a lot of work.

The new 2013 model has changed skis, track, drivers and probably more. I think a new one might ride pretty solidly out the door but not the older ones.

That's crazy that you have to change so much to current sled to get all the bugs out, no thanks.

I rode the 2013 FX Nytro 144 stock sled it it has the new tuner ski which are very nice. has a 1 3/4 back country track which does well off trail. I had no issues with the hand warmers for the 2 days I rode the sled. One morning was cold like 12 and just set them half way and I was good. We did smell a lot of hyfax on the trail so I would add scratchers right out the box and be done with that. These 2013 sleds had clicker shocks up front but the production sleds will not. We pounded the snot out of these things for 2 days and I was very impressed. Pat's yamaha has 2 of theme still and you can ride them and see for yourself
