Yearning for a land of white gold

Wife caught me looking for jobs in the UP. Wife goes, "So you don't like being married anymore?" This season sucked on so many levels, seems like these days the only place to go is the Lake Superior Snow Belt for any kind of decent snow. So if I wasn't married, I would say the **** to the concrete jungle, find my dream job, of any Yoop county road commissioner to live the dream and actually ride more than drive in winter. Another frustrating season to say the least that is ending way too soon. I miss 2014.

Has she ever been up here? Especially in the summer and autumn? Sure winters are "special" up here, but we do have some very beautiful weather from May into October. Could sweeten the pot.

There are ways to get her on your side. This is not that unlikable a place...even for people who don't like the snow and cold (and for the rest of us it's a dream.) If she's already living in Wisconsin then the hard part is already done.

Now you just gotta figure out what she likes in a place and find it up here. There is so much diversity...from culture to wilderness to sports and relaxation.

You have to luv snow to live in the UP snow belts. Enjoy playing, removing and working in the stuff...like is not a good enough reason. Somedays you just need to stay home wait for a better day. Snow is part of everyday winter life in the snowbelts, no vacations or days off so you have to luv it and embrace it or will tear you down.

Well compromise a bit and consider Wausau/Merril area. At least then a day trip north isn't too bad of drive then.
I know the mill (Expera) in Rhinelander was hiring.

The UP is a lonely desolate place as proved by our ride back to N.WI after a day ride in the Keeweener....LOL....7PM last evening and we are heading east on Hy. 2 between Watersmeet and I.R.and not one other vehicle in either direction until we were about 4 mile from Iron River.....cold and desolate....if your wife likes all the modern conveniences and culture a Milwaukee suburb offers she won't last a month. When your vacation destination becomes your permanent work a day home, it's no longer your vacation spot.

that reads as if your wife made a threat! real nice... stand up for yourself... at least ask her if youre allowed to daydream... ide drop her like a dirty sock and move after that comment..

Yeah but does she let you back in? Lol. Of course after six weeks her boyfriend is probably wore out and broke by then too.:highly_amused: Lmao

That is why when I travel, I always give her a heads up when I will be home. No surprises or awkward moments. LOL.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander! Hey, living in the UP wold have its positives and negatives! Here in northern Illinois were taxed to death, have had only a snowfall in early December that lasted 3 days, just had a string on tornadoes and tons of rain this winter, we're almost proud of the fact we have a heritage of throwing governors in jail and this state is sinking in debt cause our politicians cant walk and chew gum at the same time.....hmmm that makes the UP look a lot better for me (yes im bitter about our local weather this winter :).....yeah its been fun!

or try it my way..goodbye honey see u in 6 WEEKS!!!!!!!

hahahhahahahahahhahahaha

My wife was being sarcastic when she said that. My wife knew going into marriage that snowmobiling is what I do. So this whole winter which sucked, she saw how crappy I was. She calls my issue weather anxiety. She understands that when winter roles around, the marriage is postponed until spring. LOL. To be fair though she would have a tough time in the UP because there is no work in her field up there. She went to law school but she is not actively practicing law. She works a job where having a law background helps. You need an entrepreneurial spirit to live in the UP and for her to have work she would have to start her own law outfit and she has no interest in that. She has too much money invested to walk away and start over. Don't go to law school.

I was the same exact way and felt the same in 2009 when I was sick of Illinois and wanted to live somewhere cool.Life is short go for it! homes are super affordable. You will have to stay around John's/Houghton area for work or the Ironwood/Hurley area other than that it's real bleak. Marquette has lots of work and decent shopping...AND the wife ??? I kid you not we were on some rocky road to say the least when the economy and construction took a dive around 2008/2009 I was online dreaming of moving up north and we got into n argument and she yelled "I'm not moving way the he#* up there with you!" 7 years later she's is not crazy about everything here but as mentioned above the beauty of the other seasons are just as amazing as the winters. She loves the waterfalls,Lake Superior to name a few. Two of here photos were chosen to be in our new hospital forever. And there are law firms up here to work at, not many but there are
