Yellowstone Tour On Sleds

Anyone have suggestions on renting sleds and touring Yellowstone. I was on-line and saw you can do a tour in the park with a guide or do a self ride on your own outside of the park. Looks like they are renting Doo 900 which is just fine by me. Looking to see if anyone has done this and how they liked it.

Thank you,

If you have never been, it might be worth it if you want to see sites. I lived in MT and have been in Yellowstone in all 4 seasons and winter was always my fav. That was back when you could take your own tour.

We are going to be out there in early march and while we'll be riding our own sleds outside the park my wife wanted to do the park tour. I started calling in Oct and every place in West Yellowstone was already booked for the winter. Couldn't believe it. If you find somebody with openings, please let me know.

took the guided tour few years back while out there on a ski trip. There is a speed limit in the park and the guide will set the pace on the slowest rider. We had a good group and according to our guide we got more miles and sites in than his normal groups do. To sum it up I would do it again, just remember you are there to see the sites of Yellowstone in the winter not rack up the miles. I would also consider doing one of the vintage snowcoach tours they offer.

there is no shortage of rental shops that can set you up with a tour in Yellowstone go here have a look

and there are tons of rental places that offer great deals on lodging and snowmobile rentals

do a simple online search and you will find many
the better deals will include a free tank of fuel each day, and almost ALL of them offer some sort of options on hiring a guide for outside the park rides, if your new or not sure of yourselves, , just as many have daily group rides you can join so not to ride alone

its NOT hard to find things these days if you look, and the trails out there are marked pretty good so easy to navigate on your own if you have simple map reading skills , paying attention to signage while you ride, or a GPS as back up

west yellowstone is a great place to go, the scenery in and out of the park is awesome and trails are very well taken care of!

and a link for rentals, lots of different places again, to pick from and many offer all sorts of sleds to rent, not just one type or model!

and for packages on lodging and rentals

I thought I read recently that they were opening the park back up to unlimited riding. No tour or guide needed. Can't remember if it's this year or next. Basically the article stated that the study conducted showed no ill effects on any of the animals in the park.

We rode Island Park / West Yellowstone area a few years ago. Two of our friends took a day and did the park tour. The others chose to keep riding the steep and deep outside the park. My opinion only, but the restrictions are kind of a racket (sounds like they are finally making some changes). Only way to ride the park is with a four stroke, but not any four stroke (if you happen to own one), you gotta rent one from a shop. Then on top of that, you can't take it out on your own, have to pay the shop to guide you. Our friends did get to see a lot of wildlife and very cool areas, so probably worth it. We were just salty about pulling our sleds 18+hours, 1200 miles and then not being able to ride them in the park and being told you have to rent + guide. Great for the local economy thou, keeps those rental shops packed for certain... Basically guaranteed business. As far as the area, there are tons of trails to ride or if you like powder, it is around every single corner. I tell people to avoid the Two Top loop only because every rental shop (if not doing a group tour inside the park) directs their clients to that loop. Every single inch was tracked up when we were up there. Absolutely beautiful ride, just completely tracked up.

There are still many restrictions, and your Sled has to be "BAT". My 900 4 stroke Renegades are not "BAT", but the 900 Grand Touring's are.
600 ace Skidoo's are "BAT". 2 Stroke's in the Park will probably get you Prison time.
