John,
I have been waiting for over 8 years to get our local Internet provided in Phelps to bring a line
down by South Twin, and they do is say "not at this time". How did you Persuade you’re provider to
drop you a line? Help!! We need service ..

I did have to pay for them to bring the line over to our residence. Quite a bit of money, just to bring it the 800 feet from our neighbor, but the savings will have the install paid for in 3 years.

If you have a fairly decent cellular signal, look into a wireless hotspot through that or satellite. Both are pretty good, just issues with download limits.

Thanks John, we have tried everything. Frontier has pulled PVC up on Rt17, were about 500' from 17, and they wont proceed any closer. I have conversed with Whitdust before, I will look into Exede.

Bob I don't know how strong your cell phone signal is but mine sucks so I'm going with John's theme & installing a Samsung network extender & use that for our cell phones supposed to have 80 foot circle of network zone. Exede is soooooo much faster than Sonic or Wild Blue so can accomodate the cell phones. Just need southern exposed window for extender so satillite gps can hook up to set up the network location. I'm too busy with other stuff right now but will get network compeleted in July.

Switched to Exceed from Wild Blue last month. Great move for speed and cost. I get 12MBps download and cost is half what I was paying from Wild Blue (about $40 per month). They are running a promo for free equipment and install with 2 year contract.

Yep not much point using Hughes or Wild Blue now that Exede is available.

Oh man, is this sweet!

Some things happen so fast, it is like they are not even being downloaded, just acquired from the computers RAM.

Whitedust,
Just curious...I'm on Hughesnet right now. Does Excede work better/faster? How about any "Fair Access Policy"?

I'm paying 110.00 a month, but I don't have too many choices. Cellular coverage is weak, to none exsistant. No cable, no DSL.

I may have to check these people out if it's a better system, service, and deal.

Exede is at least 2to 3x faster than Hughes up to 12mbs Hughes is like 4-5mbs at most. Exede costs $49.99 a month. I never have problems with fair access but don't use Nexflix either use direct tv. All depends on your net habits how much you up load & down load but Excede still best bang for buck.

Thanks for the scoop. I'm going to go check them out. I do like to watch the you-tube videos here and there. I would use NetFlix, if I didn't have the FAP to worry about and, of course, if the speed was there - which it isn't with HughesNet.

Anybody here using the "Excede Voice"? Is it any good?

One nice feature of the Excede is that from midnight to 5 am you can download unlimited for no charge against your monthly data package. So, I can set up to down load and save movies/shows from Netflix at 2 am and then watch them later on my TV.

Well, here's what i found out, stopped in at the Radio shack store in Eagle River, i like what i see, plus, I can shut the service down up to 6 months at a reduced fee being the house is a vacation home. In the shut down mode, I can still access a wifi house thermostat or security cameras, and I can start the Phelps Cam back up. Plus free install with a 2 year contract. So i will be scheduling installation very soon.

Signed up for Excede today, with the phone service...we'll see from there.:) Hope it does better than HughesNet.

I will say this much. My wife called HughesNet earlier this week to see if there is a better/faster speed offering for this area. She was told that we could get the 5mgb download/1mgb upload option for $59.99. Our Upload/Download speed is considerably less than that right now. I just never kept up on it over the last few years.

Currently, we pay almost twice that much for half (or less) speed! I guess they didn't mind taking our money for half the service that they offer new contracts. It's my fault for not keeping up to date on their offerings, but I feel like I got taken advantage of. Live and learn I suppose.

Done and installed! So far, so good...faster than HughesNet.

Their customer service website isn't very user friendly though. Kinda clunky.
