Zero turn lawnmower reviews

I'm planning to buy a new zero turn mower in late winter/spring. I looked at a few today and so far I've narrowed the field to an eXmark, Scag or Dixie Chopper. I'm not looking for a big commercial grade mower just a small to mid size residential version. Has anybody had any good or bad luck with any of these brands? Thanks, Jeff

I know a guy that uses the exmark, a commercial model, and he doesn't like it. Has had some service issues with it also.

My brother inlaw is tight as can be and always does his research and found http://www.badboymowers.com/ he is in the same situation as you no need for a commerical unit but still needs a zero turn. I he said the Bad boy mowers are big down south.
It may be worth taking a look at

I did consider a Badboy when I first started looking but there's not a dealer within a reasonable drive. Thanks

look up wright Stander I used to own a landscape business there the only way to go pricey but try to find a demo you'll save thousands

I've owned 12 ztr's and a few walkbehinds in the past 12 years.
Dixie is a great mower, but kind of stuck in the past compared to other major brands. I own one Dixie right now, and it does a good job at what I bought it for, wide-open flat out mowing (18 acres cut biweekly) 33hp 74"
Scag and exmark, you'll be more than happy. Hustler would be another good option. You'll get more of a manicured finish cut and durability. Wright mowers are also good, and a big time saving machine, but more of a commercial unit because of the design.

How large of a mowing area and how long do you want to keep the mower?

i have an exmark for 10 years now, zero problems, replaced 1 belt, i cut about 1 1/2 acre... 52" 23 hp kohler engine

I would buy a used efi eXmark commercial

probably not worth the extra $ for residential going to an efi. Plus the repairs on a used machine. 3000 for a hydro system, 230 for an efi fuel pump, 100 for a tire...
Totally agree efi for commercial use, or propane.

I would think just the opposite with the crap gas u get now and a guy not using every week efi would be the way to go.
heck do u want a carb sled? carb cleanings are not cheep now days if u dont do it your self.
I got a used walk behind exmark commercial from a bud and never plan on buying a mower again.
I also think u have more options for the mowers on the used market in the commercial line.
like leaf plows for this time of yr
always a dice roll on used but most guys do weekly maint on there stuff and keep logs of what was done.
and after u cant deduct it any more u trade in on new

Grasshopper or Woods Mowin Machine- I love the deck out front especially if you have a lot of trees to mow under. Get the power deck option i makes it great to clean out the deck and change the blades. One thing that I dont like as well is the mid mount mowers do ride a little better than my grasshopper.

I was looking at zero turn mower 8 or 9 years ago and ended up with a 4 wheel steering John Dear 243 and its been a great setup with zero problems. I have some very tight places to cut and its worked great.

I'm done with JD.

I have a 61" Snapper Pro and love it. They make smaller decks in the Pro line with several different engine options. I found the pricing was better than most. Check them out online.
