need help, i have a 99 arctic cat zl500 efi, when this thing sits for a few days it takes forever to get it started. once it starts it will fire on the first pull all day long, and it runs perfect. i have changed the stator, computer, fuel rail and injectors. any suggestions?

i don't think there's a problem with it. but what do you mean by forever? 25+ pulls? it took me 2 dozen pulls to start my sled for the first time this summer when it takes 1 or 2 when being ridden at least weekly. it takes about a dozen pulls if it sits for a month.

kev06ss. Check your sparkplug caps. I found in time they get a carbon buildup and the spark can't get through, Spray some cleaner and use a small screwdriver to clean and scrape the caps clean. Do this a couple times. If you have air, blow clean. Hope this helps.

Is there any way to check the fuel pressure?? I had a similar issue with my 01 ZL 600, but it only happened a couple of times. Sounds like an EFI issue to me.

Check compression..........cold engine has lower compression than a hot/warm one. When you have excessively worn rings in a 2 stroke they can be a bear to start.

While there could be many things that could be wrong with the machine, this sounds like a fuel delivery issue. One pull should be priming the pump and ignition. You would need to remove some fuel lines to see if one pull gets the fuel delivery this machine requires for the efi to work properly. I suspect the fuel pump is weak, or a plugged inlet filter.

anonomoose, i agree i think this is a fuel delivery issue because when it does first start it runs real funny and will only idle, so i shut if off and restart it, it will get better, i do this two or three times then it runs perfect. is the pump in the tank on this?
