2011 Switchback Assault 800

Is anyone having problems with the 800 engine? Under hard accelleration at about 70mph the engine seems to bog, have to back off the gas and reapply to get around the bad spot. Also happens at 90mph. When trying to power out in deep snow it will bog. HELP!

The Poo 800 from 09 - present have been nothing but problems. Sorry to hear your having problems, but, from what I understand, is just something your gonna need to get used to :(

How is your belt tension? 2300 miles, might be time for a new belt. You are the first person to mention issues with the 2011 800 motor....all the other reports so far this year have been very positive.

If the engine ran fine up until now I'd be checking the belt and clutches.

Any change in fuel mileage? Original or replaced plugs? Let's hear a few more details....

Problem started after first tank of gas. Sometimes I can just accellerate normally all the way up over 90/95 mph with out a problem. Sled has been in the shop since last Friday. No codes have been registered on the computer. Clutch, clutch spring, valves, can, muffler, fuel pressure and fuel filter have been checked. My uneducated guess would be computer-mapping? Premium resistor is hooked up, have been burning premium all along, non-ethanol. When problem occurrs (approx. 65/70 mph) rpm,s will bounce up and down 6300 to 7150, I let off the gas and reapply gas and it will act normal until approx. 90mph and problem will reoccurr. This is while under hard accelleration. Forget trying to play in deep powder. I don't remember if this happens more when I first start riding or after I have been riding for awhile?

Plugs have been changed, gas mileage is approx. 12mph under normal riding conditions when riding hard or in the powder it can drop to approx. 9mph.

I've heard of people having issues with 600 motors and getting a reflash of the same flash. Maybe they should try that.

This is the first I've heard of any issues from the 2011 flash/motor.

......

Go to Snowest and HCS and read all about it ......I have 1300 Miles on mine my son has 1000 on his ...They both started acting up at around the 400 Miles or so ....We did take both in and they found the TPS to be out of adjustment brought them back and the same thing .....Few weeks ago I was riding the trail and it would bog pretty often I decided to stop and pull the 10% ethanol plug out and install the Non Ethanol plug and I am happy to say its running stronger and Faster with absolutly no bogging since the Ethanol plug change ...I run BP 91octane with no ethanol ......Last weekend we were on a trip and ended up putting 89octane in with 10% Ethanol I decided to go ahead and keep the non Ethanol plug in just to see if anything would happen ....No bogging but my Son and i could tell right away that we had less power and less speed ......
I changed the plug on my Sons as well and he has had no problems in approx 400 Miles

Good luck

I have the same bog but I don't have it that often. I'm guessing I have about 700 miles on mine and have had the bog maybe 5 times and it is often right around the 70mph mark. Seems like you just get out of it for a sec and it is gone. I'm sure it is in the mapping.

But other than that, this sled is AWESOME. I'm fine with my "Go Polaris the way out"!!! Was definitely questioning that though with my 08 700 Dragon SB but this Assault puts a smile on my face every time I fire it up!

Try putting in your Non Ethanol Plug ....Mine was minor at 1st also but got worse as I put miles on

You didn't take it to Houghton Powersports did you?

We took my buddies sled in to those guys a couple weeks ago when we were up riding and they were useless. We ended up taking it to Dans the former Polaris dealer and they fixed it quick and for half the price Houghton Powersports was going to charge. I later found out that Houghton Powersports doesn't have any trained mechanics! No wonder they couldn't fix the thing. It was a simple plug it in and reset the TPS.

It's a shame Polaris supports any dealer that can't fix what they sell. I would see if the guys at Dans can look at it for you. Even if they charge you it's worth getting it fixed and riding vs dealing with those knuckleheads down the road.

Boatingbent,

Thanks for the tip. To be honest, I forgot all about that plug. Can't wait for my next trip. My Assault runs just a hair better than my buddies 2010 800 Crossfire with his "10+ more HP". If I could keep the front end running straight, may be a bit quicker than that. But I think running that plug, I may even pull away more from him. Enjoy your sled, I know I DO!!!!

.......

Belive me when I tell you that when you put in the Non Ethanol Plug that assault will come to life.....Part of our trail here has about 3 miles of Gravel road which is snow covered and hard packed and my max speed was at 107MPH when I hit Full throttle for a few minutes ....Before with other plug I would be lucky to hit 90`s..lol...
A nother problem with have that plug in I can`t seam to keep the ski`s on the ground makes for hard steering ...HEHEEH

Yes, I think i'm having the same problem as you, but you say a bog happens, mine is bogging when I pin the ears back, then I let off and hit it again, same bog, I really think what mine is doing is hitting the rev limiter, to stop the problem i'm using heavier weights on the primary and a diff. spring in the secondary to slow rpm's of the motor, I haven't tried it yet but i'm going to next Tue. I'll let you know how it goes. Also having a issue with the Engine lite flashing and then Det appears on the dash then it goes into limp mode I'll be working on this issue also Tue. of next week. I will keep you updated on how things go.

The best advice for an 800 CFI is don't buy one, you won't regret it. It was the biggest snowmobile mistake I've ever made. I sold mine this fall and was never happier to see a sled go bye bye.

Did you give that same advice to the individual who bought yours? LOL
