Base layer options

Just assembling next years digs and I want to have two base layer options for next season. I want one base layer to cover 20 degrees and above and another for 20 degrees and below. I have an ultra thin poly base layer now that works well for wicking especially when you are climbing all over the seat and doing some aggressive riding. Looking for,"cheap" options. The one thing I learned last year is if you coat does not have a longer tail on it you will have a wet a _ _ !

All I wear is base layer you can pick up at any sporting good store... (thin and that wicks moisture), my Tek Vest, and my jacket without a liner. On really cold days I also wear one additional mid-layer over the base layer.

X3. I wear the same base layer, with my vest over it. (Not a tek vest, but sixsixone. Check it out online if your in the market for one. Cheaper than the Tek, yet effective.) I'll usually have some type of jersey over that, and that's it. On real cold days, I'll just have an extra wickable layer that can be stripped off and thrown in the bag when things warm up enough.

Most of my base layer is wick away reebok and Champion material from Kohl's.

Here's my get up:

RU Outise Polarmax Base Layer Crew
Klim Revolt Jersey
Freestyle Tek Vest
HMK Voyager Jacket

If it's above 15 to 20 degrees, I skip the Revolt Jersey. Above 30, I just wear a t-shirt.

Never get cold or too hot.

My brother probably could have used the tek vest when he hit a 3 inch broken branch from a downed tree that extended into the trail. It hit him square in the chest after shattering the winshield at about 30mph. Spent a couple hours in er for some pics then they sent him home with a bottle of drugs, bruised up but lucky.

Cheap insurance. I only started wearing it religiously two years ago and now feel naked without it. I had several different Tek Vests and the only one I like is the Freestyle.

Cheap poly base wick to poly/cotton Tneck then sixsixone core protector that breaths to FXR team bibs to outer shell. Add fleece to 3/1 on very cold days keep in saddle bags. Any sweat is held in Tneck but poly base keeps moisture off the skin. Never get cold with sixsixone core protector on. Don't know how anyone can ride these days without protection since many economical selections other than Tekvest. Tekvest great product but spendy compared to new vests that are now on the market.

Do you have the model number for the core protector you have?

I've gotten more interested in the tek vests. I'm interested in learning about which one to buy. Tek vest, sixsixone, any others? Differences, models that are good or not good, etc. If I buy something, I'd like to buy it once and I don't know the first thing about these. Any recommendations? Looks like there is a recommendation above for the Tek vest freestyle and for the sixsixone.

Back to the base layer question, the Polartec Power Grid is the best stuff made, couple brands sell it. I have couple sets in all three from silk, mid and heavyweight. Wicks great and insulation is second to none, wear it from the harley to dirtbiking to sleding.

Model is sixsixone core protector with spine protection. Size runs a bit on the small side so I went with the largest size which I think is XL also has built in kidney belt & addtionaly I wrap the Back Thing around the core protector to stabize my back. Then I'm ready to bang with 25 year olds.lol Do search here for tek vest, core protector or protection as discussed many times.
Tek vest a good product too but can't breath & was too ridget for me in the arm pits. I do sweat so have to get rid of mositure & core protector does allow mosture to escape. Tek vest can be worn on outside but core protector is inside only by design. I hope this helps.

I wear the Freestyle. It is the "cheapest" one thay have but is very comfortable. I wear it outside my bibs under my jacket. I have never had any issues with rubbing in the armpit. After you put it on and start riding, you don't even realize it's there.

I've never worn the sixsixone so I can't help you there.
