Go now or wait till next weekend?

This is the type of year where you make your best guess then go & ride & hope for the best. I had 1 day not so good & 1 day was exceptional during the week. UP had a whole lot of LES recently but warm up & 1st groom in some areas so conditions are changing by the hour. WI not worth messing with so everybody in UP & traffic is very heavy. Wait if you want or go if you want there is snow no problem with that & snirt areas not going to kill ya just part of the experience just going to have to take the good with the not so good. If you want perfect just may NOT happen this year. I had fun on both my riding days & you do need a few miles to awaken old riding skills so all is good. IMO 
If you go just plan on having fun not working and/or riding. On our last trip we had no snow for two days and on the third I woke up to a foot and a half. The first two days the lady and I just slept, went to the city, and drank a few. We had a very nice trip but we said ahead of time that there may or may not be snow.

Gotta go while u can...They doo a good job on trails in the UP so they last a while..
Also it only takes 5.5 hrs to Rockland for me and im in the same area s.e wi..??

Exactly go and hope for best. I'm up by houghton now. Thursday was awesome. Today ok but fading fast. Take the good with the bad.
You should have gone!!!Sounds like you missed some fresh snow Paulding on north 1-5". Waiting for LES to fall not going to work since most LES is helter skelter here & there then all evens out after awhile. Going to be heavy traffic in UP this year just no snow anywhere else. Missed a good weekend of riding in UP.

whitedust, I wouldnt say it's all that great, fair at best but getting better
Lenny, SUCKS down here & if keep waiting could suck in UP too. I don't have warm fuzzies about this season just not going to be great going on 2nd week in Jan & now talking 40s both Monday & Tuesday next week. I'll take fair in UP anytime fair here is barley rideable & this weeks warm up will cut me off from UP. No place else to ride but UP. Only 250 miles so far very bad for me.

I'm gonna go ride a tad tomorrow just to check things out. No bother today as traffic will still be enough to fall apart fast

Didn't mackinaw city and Cadillac area get hit hard as well?

You sure did miss a good weekend. Left Land O lakes at 7:15 am WI time, made it up to Houghton and back to Land O Lakes by 2:30 pm WI time. Paulding to Bruce Crossing on the way up was rougher than shnot, but on the way back it was freshly groomed. Ran into groomers multiple times this weekend. Anywhere between Mass City and Toivola is where the snows at. It was a lot deeper than I thought. The trails were good, not excellant. The problem is imo the snow is too soft and powdery, after the groomer made a pass, all it took was a dozen sleds to create some ruts again. South range is ok, Houghton was VERY THIN!!!! Still had a very good time and got to see lots of new things...
I hear ya Indy like I have been saying Lando to BC & Kenton no hardpack yet all loose stuff but good enough to ride where ever with bumps due to traffic but plenty of snow. Now we have to sweat out Monday & Tuesday thaw. To me this was a good weekend to ride next weekend unknown until thaw passes?

Rode From eagle river thru conover to land o lakes and down thru phelps last night. Mostly thin and rough. Kept a lookout for a Yameeha in Phelps....I hear ya Indy like I have been saying Lando to BC & Kenton no hardpack yet all loose stuff but good enough to ride where ever with bumps due to traffic but plenty of snow. Now we have to sweat out Monday & Tuesday thaw. To me this was a good weekend to ride next weekend unknown until thaw passes?
Last ride was Wednesday then waited out thaw days. Temps good this weekend & NFL payoffs on tube & knew Phelps was thin so ready to roll Monday but calling for 40s Monday & Tuesday so don't know next best opportunity? Glad you enjoyed your ride in UP plenty of snow up there.
