Some great points made here about dealers and dealer loyalty versus brand loyalty. I have a dilemma in that I'm really happy with both the Ski-Doo and Polaris dealers in my area. It actually makes it hard to favor one over the other.
These dealerships aren't fancy, no massive showrooms, and no matching shirts but they seem to care about their customers. This winter I was telling the owner at the Ski-Doo shop how happy I'd been with my Summit and I made the comment that it probably wasn't good for his business that I've kept it so long. His response was "you know, it's not just about selling machines, you want people to get good use out of what they have." Not the answer I expected. I bought several Polaris models from the dealer in my area in the late 1990's, early 2000's but after I switched to Doo in 04' I didn't have much reason to visit the Polaris dealer. One day after about a four year absence, I walked into the Polaris dealership and ran into the owner. Even after all this time, he greeted me by name. Granted it's a gift to be able to do this but he makes the effort and it pays off. About a year later I bought a high-end Alumacraft from him.
Now back to the 2013 question. I'm really crunching the numbers to see if I can pull off a new machine next year. I'm really liking the RMK this year and I'm trying to decide if I can believe the website. If I filter on the special edition models using RMK/800/Electric Start/155x2.4 track, it shows the 155 RMK ES models and the RMK 155 Assault Powder. If this is the case, this is a pretty good deal because you're getting the deep snow track and electric start on the Assault for about $200.
Went to the Polaris/Arctic Cat/Yamaha show yesterday and when I was there I thought the turnout was really light. May have had something to do with the weather. In any case, I got to see everything first-hand which is always a valuable thing. BTW, the Indy 600 is pretty cool.
