Black Friday shoppers

I came home from my wife's sisters place tonight at about 6:30 and we drove by Best Buy. Our temp was 18 degrees, it was snowing, and we had a NW wind at 22, gusting to 37mph. They said the windchill was about 0 degrees and there was 30 to 40 people standing outside in a line waiting for the store to open at 8:00. Then we drove by Walmart and the parking lot was packed. The store was letting people in and it looked like it was packed inside. The traffic was already getting crazy and all of the motels in town are full. I am sure that some things that I do other people find strange but I hope that I never get excited about shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

Against my wishes, my wife and daughter are out right now shopping.
Pisses me off that they make those people work on Thanksgiving day.
Nobody gives a crap about family time anymore!

Just drove by Target at 10 minutes to 9pm and it was MOBBED! Ridiculous! I've been driving home from the in-laws for T-Giving night for years and loved not having a sole on the road. Now the last few years there has been more and more traffic and now driving by Target I see this?! Crazy! "People demand it" my butt! It's your Fricken GREED that's driving it!

Do Wallyworld and Kmart pay double time?
I don't think they give them a choice either. Next year there won't be any thanksgiving. We'll just eat at the fricken food court in the mall with the crazy out of control freaks!

Working on my truck tonight I needed a 1 5/16 wrench well of course gotta go to sears they opened at 8 CRAZY lines outside we pulled up 10 min before 8 just to get 1 wrench and there was hundreds and hundreds if not a thousand people outside. Me and my buddy park back by the automotive garage (they do tires at this sears in appleton) and 8:00 on the dot theres nobody back there i was just hoping they would open those doors because it would've been at least 10 min before i got inside and sure enough a nice 70 year old gentleman opened the door at 8 and he laughed. we were the only ones waiting to go through there while everybody else stood on the other side of the store.

My wife wanted to buy a new TV that she saw advertised 50% off for black Friday. 50% off what? Why would someone take a 50% hit on something for just one day of sales? We read somewhere that a lot of the stuff on sale on Black Friday is MADE to be sold on Black Friday, if you know what I mean.;)
Always check the quality and features of stuff before you buy, especially if its half price.

Team elkhorn has some common sense. Think about it people. You are buying low quality junk and they are making you think you getting a great deal. TVs are the worst offenders.

Very true on TV's. Check model numbers before you buy. The 82 incher I bought had three different models for 2012 all with very different inerds and prices. Most the deal tvs are 720p and not the 3D 1080p that you may think. Buyer beware.

Skylar, that is not true at all. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 51. When I was a kid, there weren't any stores or restaurants open on Sundays! When I started in Law Enforcement, Christmas Eve at 4:00 pm the city turned into a ghost town. This has all changed in the last 25 years. All Holidays used to be the same way-we are Closed to spend time with family. Things have changed for the worse in the last quarter century.

If you work in retail, you can expect to work holidays, been that way forever.

You are correct sir. I am 44, and it has not always been this way, just a good amount of my adult life. LOL. The phrase "deader than 4 o'clock on a Sunday" comes to mind when I think of the way things were in my youth.

I'm a little older then 51 and can remember not even many of the gas stations were even open on Sundays and holidays.

I woke up early this morning, no alarm, just woke up so I went to Toys R Us to get a deal on Lego sets. It was great, no one in the store at 6:00 am, apparently all the crazies were out last night. I was able to hit Toys R Us, Best Buy and Menards before 7am with no lines, no rude people and helpful staff.

I find it nice stores are open on sundays, that way projects won't come to a halt for a missing part, piece, or tool. It was only a matter of time before stores and restaurants were open on sundays. Thats 52 days out of the year you have to heat/cool, pay property taxes, rent or mortgage, etc. Quite a big chink of the year with no income on that day. And as far as the stores being closed for time with the families on Thanksgiving day, they may have been, but there was still workers inside getting ready for friday. You would have to go back to the time before the big box stores to see them complelely closed. I would also say consumers must like it, they stand in line to get in! It really doesn't bother me one way or the other what people do on black friday.
