I just bought a 2004 polaris xc700sp. According to different pages i have been on there are two different rear suspensions. Trying to figure out which one i have. My serial number doesn't match anything. Didn't know if there was a website that i could plug in the number and it would tell me my specs. And no i dont have the owners manual.

A picture is worth a thousand words, if you bought at auction you could have just about anything.

If you have 2 bogey wheels per side and/or a big coil spring shock in the rear you have an m-10. If you have 3 bogey wheels per side and a traditional looking skid its an edge. Most of us could tell you what it is by looking at a picture. Of course one could add bogey wheels but thats what they came from the factory with.

You have the Edge rear suspension. I wasn't a fan of the M-10's anyways, too soft and not made to take a pounding.

.......and, I think you have a 2003 700 xcsp.......check the tunnel. :)

You can obviously look at the build date, but you can also look at the 8th digit from the end of the VIN, and it will be a 3 or 4, and that will tell you the year. It's not always a number, some decades it's alpha.

I couldn't find the build date on it. But the digit says 03. When I tried to look up on a dealer page for part numbers the first 3 serial numbers weren't matching. On this sled it is SN1 which made me believe it could be a 01. So I called the nearest polaris dealer, and that happened to be where it was purchased from, to see if they could look it up. They could and said it was built in 01, bought in 02, and it is listed as a 03. Didn't know polaris built sleds 2 yrs in advanced. He also told me to look at the waterpump. If it is on the front then it is either a 03 or 04. Also according to his records the cdi box had a service letter to replace and hadn't been done. Of course there is a time frame on that replacement. thanks for all the info.

My buddy was selling this to me. He was asking 2300 for it. I gave him some cash and traded some machine time for it. I am a local excavator in town and he is always needing things done around his house. It has 3400 miles on it. I looked them up to see what they were going for on ebay and sledswap and they were going around 25-2600. So I thought it was a good deal.

Bestfib,

I have had zero problems with mine, your gonna love it, I would change out the power valve bellows and springs as the ones you have are probably orignal, pray for snow.

Manufacturers have always introduced their next model year nearly a full year "early". (2013 lineups were introduced in late winter/early spring of '12) If you were to buy a "new" sled this fall (2012) you are buying a 2013 model year machine. I would guess back then they produced a lot of sleds (compared to today) so it is likely that your sled would have been assembled in late '01 and delivered to a dealer several months later and sold that fall.
