My first new post ever.

I have a couple of things to say, but first a little bit about me. I have been a stuanch supporter of snowmobiling for over 20 years, I lived in Houghton and got to ride any day I wanted and I have been a follower of John Dee's since about 2004ish. I am not trying to turn this thread into a bash fest, but I thought since I've been reading a lot of compaints I would throw my 2 cents out there.

Lately there seems to be a lot of negativity on this board and it is really disheartening. Last week was the ride in for Make A Wish and the only threads that seem to be talked about have to do with off trail riding, gas prices, snowmobile prices, truck prices lack of snow blah blah blah. I couldn't make it again this year and I would've liked to see more pics, read more stories etc. We all like to ride and this is a very expensive sport. It's also extremely dependent on the weather. If you have a boat and its raining you can still go boating. I'm probably more frustrated than almost all of you because I can now again ride from my house but due to my young family and other commitments I don't have the time nor money to go ride. This site used to be a place where people could share exeriences, good and bad. Where a person could come on and talk about there recently deceased dog and would get sympathy. Now it seems those threads get buried really quick with people complaining about stuff they can't control. I will always visit this site due to the journals (I have a daughter about the same age), obviously the weather forecasts (because they are very accurate) and some of the things that I can learn about tuning, conditions, tile laying etc.

I'm sorry this took so long but it is something I have been beating around in my head for a while and I just wanted to throw it out there to see what other people think. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, maybe not, but there was my 2 cents.

I feel the same way. I always like to hear a good story on what happen on a trip or someone did something nice for someone. Its ok to tell about problems that occured but not bash everybody or every groomer out there. It is what it is and if you like to ride you just have to deal with it. I hope you can get out and ride some more before the season is done. We will be going up this Friday/ Tuesday at D's base camp. I know the conditions will not always be perfect, but we always have a great time.

For a first-ever post, it’s pretty dang good. </SPAN>

I spend a lot of time looking at the guest shots and like fire126, enjoy reading about people’s trips and sledding experiences. Would have loved to see a guest shot thread just dedicated to Ride-In weekend photos taken by the participants and others (maybe it’s not too late).</SPAN>

Still a lot of good stuff on here but sometimes a finer chaff screen is required.</SPAN></SPAN>

I agree. A lot of the content here latley is getting pretty old.
We finally get some decent snow and people still only seem to want to complain about everything thats bad about it.
Here's an idea. How about we all take a five minute breather from bitching-n-preaching, get on our sleds, and have some fun for the short amount of time we actually have the opportunity to do so!!

I cannot agree more. I have been labeled and "optimist" by many and it is a label I wear with pride. I had parents that always told me (mom still does!) to look for the good in things and I think it has paid off. I do understand how there can be disappointments in life (boy do I ever in the health department from 2009 to 2011) and that sometimes a person just needs to vent and that venting to an audience is really the only venting that works. I know I did it earlier in the season.

With that said, many years ago, I thought up this motto to live by and try my best to live by it each moment of my life: "One always has two choices in life...Be happy, or not".

You guys and your crazy ideas and optimism. You'll never amount to anything.

Actually, I'm relieved that I'm not alone in my habit of always trying to look at the positive side of things. Doesn't always work but it works more often than not.

I thought todays forum was great!!

One less wolf to try and run over when I'm UP there!

In all seriousness, I think alot of the "positive" stuff has migrated over to Facebook. No bitching there about trails or groomers or tile layers!

Kinda sad but I think a new regime has become the majority here. Still a bunch of good stuff here, just a different vibe.

"Tile Layers" - pretty funny. I've never met a tile layer I didn't like but then, I've never met them all.

Facebook is kind of a different animal because of the way it operates. Ironically, I've pretty much given up facebook because it is quickly becoming just a vehicle for agenda promotion, something that this site works hard to avoid.

Tealracing 16-

I am one that would agree with you also. I have been visiting this site since 2001 and it sure has changed but like Dave_B stated, there may be a different vibe on here but there is definately still a bunch of good stuff here. I have to say that this site is still by far the best site to visit. I just tend to avoid reading/commenting on all the negative stuff and just focus on the positive on the positive ones.

The "Tile Layer" thing was a direct jab at a certain member of the site. :) I guess I have to be banned now...

I planned on getting some video while riding up there for the JD ride-in, but I put the non-adjustable mount on my "trail" helmet and all the video's showed my speedo and skis. I have already ordered another adjustable Contour mount. I would have taken a few pictures, but i decided to keep my gloves on instead. My wife and I had a blast. We did a short ride on Friday when we got to town, hit the Bug Bar Friday night, and went south to Greenland on Saturday. We got back to town early and was able to go to the Finlandia bookstore for some FU gear. We went to the banquet Saturday night and met up with some people we met at our first ride-in last year. We actually got their email address this year too! I got out bid on a few of the silent action items, but won two raffle ticket items. I am looking for a return trip for early March and trying to get a room at the Wildlife cabins for the 2014 JD ride.

My talk about tile laying wasn't a personal jab, I have actually did my first tile job this past fall and I used a lot of what the tile layers have said over the years. I think if anyone was complaining about the amount of useful information on this board than they are waaay smarter than me.
