Howdy all,

Starting moving sleds around this weekend and 'found' the Skiroule s250 that was a gift to me from a family friend. They were cleaning out their garage about 4 years ago, knew I was a sledder and offered it and it's matching skiboose to me. I couldn't say no and it's been in my garage ever since. But now I see that I'm never going to get around to restoring it or riding it (barely have time to ride now) so I'm thinking of either donating it to a museum or just selling it.

So - any suggestions on what to do with it? It's a Skiroule 250S with the one lunger sachs motor. Darker green color. The skiboose is matching in color. It was purchased new, registered once, ridden by this family's kids for several years in the early 70's, and put in the barn. The entire machine is in pretty good shape, has some minor rust on exposed metal surfaces but it's all there. The skiboose needs the hitch repaired and a new windshield. From what I can see it needs a good going over and it will be ready for the vintage ideas.

It's located in West Michigan.

Open to ideas and suggestions. I just want someone to have it who would enjoy getting the old girl running and looking good again.

Thanks,
Fredster

I sure hope so....it's an unmolested original. Just needs a new home and someone with the time to do the resto....

Oh Man! John Dee member Skiroulle is going to be all over this. If anyone has Kelly's number, give him a call. A match made in Snowmobile Heaven.

Kind of sounds to me like the makings of a Make-A-Wish sled #2?
I'd be happy to donate some labor to help bring her back to life!

If you want to sell it, get an appraisal or have it restored I have a number of a guy just south of you in the Lowell/Alto area. The salvage yard in Belding will give you nothing.

I just sent him a text.

Whoa! Got the text. The old guy almost dropped his nightly Ovaltine and cookies. Getting rid of a perfectly good vintage Skiroule? I’m not sure if that is even legal in some states. If the goal is to donate it to a good home, I can’t think of a better time to visit The Land of 10,000 Lakes.

It’s very cool and in incredibly good condition. From what I’ve seen browsing the vintage listings, this is a rare combination to find intact. You have something pretty special there. I’m sure there are a number of museums (the one in St. Germain WI is a great one) that would accept it but it might be years before their volunteers can get around to restoring it. Some private party would snap it up pretty quick if it was listed on a website specializing in vintage sleds. I’d leave it up here for discussion for a few days – some interesting suggestions so far. If it were me, I would want to know that it was restored with pride and not, perish the thought, parted out.

Parts for these can be a little tricky but the older “roules” actually seem to be more popular with the vintage crowd than the later Coleman versions and parts do show up from time to time. The real plus is that this one looks solid and there aren’t a lot of parts to fail.

Guys,

I've been busy, and unfortunately absent from the board for a couple of weeks and wanted to say thanks for the replies! I'll try contacting the folks at Naubinway first, I have been to their winter show a few times and it would not be too far for me to make a run up there with the 'roule and it's little snow trailer. Thanks again and I'll let you know what happens.

Also not sure if this matters but I have the original owner's manual and the one and only registration when the sled was first purchased. Some cool paperwork that was kept for almost 40 years by the original owners.......

I think it's a good call. It might take them awhile to get to it but you will know that it will eventually be preserved. Most private parties would probably restore it but you never know if they just parted it out. It would be pretty cool if you visited the museum some time in the future and saw your sled on display.

I'm still of the opinion that you have a combination that is pretty rare in its current condition. Having manuals and paperwork is even more unusual.

Let us know the outcome if you decide to take it up to Naubinway

For a more local donation - check out the west michigan snowmobile museum in Sparta - I haven't been there, but saw it online. Looks like they are just getting started.
