ok i posted this in tech talk and havent gotten a response. i was told taking the shelf out of the air box will cause the motor to get a little extra power. but in doing that do i have to rejet? and if so to what.

Yea that sounds right. More fuel, more air= more power. Would have to play with it. Go up a couple jet sizes and take a plug reading. If it still seems too lean, or its still not getting enough fuel for the amount of air coming in, then jet it up a until its feels right. If you have no expierence reading plugs, you can go by the seat of your pants and watch your RPM's to decide if its running rich or lean. Maybe someone who has done this can give you an exact jet size, but thats what I would do if i didnt know. Temperature/air density and elevation are also going to cause you to change jetting to run at peak performance. Remember tho when its running lean you are at greater risk of seizing the engine, so when in doubt jet it a little higher than lower....

Have you called Goodwin back and ask them because if they told you to remove the shelf they should be able to tell you what else may need to be done.

Some Poo's for example can be very rich from the factory. I pulled the shelf on my fusion 600 and went one jet leaner at the same time. Many guys go leaner than that. Check for your particular sled on hardcoresledder

all carbs come pig fat from the factory. if u had to warranty a sled motor for 2 yrs how would u send them out jetted?
my guess no jetting change would be needed. but I would also guess your 550 is not pumping enough air that wasting your time pulling air box apart and putting it back in etc etc would be worth it.
my guess less that 3/4 hp from a air box mod on a stock fan.
now it will make it more ez to work on sled because u can reach in to air box and get carb boots on with ez
