Getting back into sport, what sled should I buy?

Go Ski Doo 800 with r-motion and you will love the sled. You are right to worry about the weight of the yamaha. EPS is good but you don't need it when you are on the Ski Doo and the r-motion is the best suspension money can buy. Anybody who argues that fact hasn't owned one.

Yep, I have been instructed from the wife to wait for 2015's to make sure I get exactly what I want with the newest and latest technology. Limits the ability to ride them prior to purchase, but that is the chance I take. I do go out west, so it is not 100% groomed trails. Thanks for the input, but I am leaning towards the ski-doo or a cat.

Well that changes everything look at 2s Polaris best powder sled maybe switchback or assault 600 engine not 800.

Not the best powder sled according to the experts. 2014 mountain sled of year is ski-doo free-ride. And as posted in other forums here they called it the best off-trail sled ever created.

not many mountains in WI. Even off-trail those are more like mole hills and even an mxz sport 600 would be enjoyable on them :) Get the sled for where and how you will ride the most. $.07

I don't think he would be happy with a mountain sled for trail riding more of a crossover sled application.

In that case renegade X (More on trail than off), Renegade Backcountry X(More off trail than on), or Free Ride 137(More off trail than on)

The above with the R motion would be a sweet ride!

Its all I owned besides one polaris indy. Why would I reccommend something I've never ridden. Do you ever not dog ski-doo and talk about how great yamaha 4 strokes are?

come on guys. I know whitedust and yes he does like the 4 strokes, but I also see him suggest other brands besides Yamaha which sometimes I don't understand, but he spends time researching all brands. I don't. I have two I would even consider spending my money on. After those two brands I don't even read about the other two brands. Probably because I'm not an off trail guy. I have nothing against off trail and in fact would like to do some off trail riding but I don't know anyone to go with or where to go. I don't want to trespass and don't want to take my $13,000 machine and do damage to it because I don't know what I'm doing. So I stick to the trails for the limited time I have on the sled.

As far as "his dealer" is concerned...I hear it's many people's dealer and from what I read on this site many people are very happy with. Just spreading the good news so other people don't have to waste their limited time with dealers who may not treat them as well. I have never used "his dealer" before so I can't give any testimony but I would try them if they could satisfy my requirements.

You will have to show me where I "dogged" doo as you put it. Sure my doo 2s 800 had flaking rings & frozen crank but I own an etec 150 outboard & I like doo 4s never said 1 bad word about doo 4s. I have owned all the brands & modern sleds are purpose built machines so no one brand fits all applications that is just narrow minded to think 1 brand is best at everything then state anyone is wrong because you only owned doos does not make much sense in my book. Hook up with factory rides check out other brands all are pretty good IMO but you will never know if you don't try them.:)

That is out of bounds!! Take issue with me if you have an issue but leave Pat's out of it. That is lower than low! Pat's works very hard to be an outstanding dealer & you just slammed them for nothing. What's up with you guys & your mean spirited posts seems to be coming out of nowhere about nothing.

Ive seen you dog doo many times. Etecs and 800's in general all they do is blow up, the cranks are gonna go bad, go BOOM to be excact. They wont make it past this many miles....yada yada yada...yamaha engines are gods gift to snowmobiling yada yada. Just like on this thread 3 people in a row reccomend a doo with r-motion, and you immediatly post well if you want the best powder sled its polaris. Then i post something about it not being the best 2014 powder sled according to experts, and then you say well he doesnt want a mountain sled haha he wants a crossover, so i post what most of the snowmobing world considers an amazing crossover and you say, all i reccommend is doo. We know you hate ski-doo's and 2 strokes in general but alot of people still like them, its what the sport was born on. I never stated doo was the BEST like you claim or anyone is wrong lol for owning other brands, i stated these experts called it the best of 2014. big difference. If someone asked me point blank I would say yes just out of my loyalty, but truly unless i rode every brands 2014 then how do I know. Thats why I relied on the people from snow-west and american snowmobiler and other mags that have doo at the upper end if not top in every category. Its not narrowmindess its loyalty. I respect your loyalty towards yamaha and others towards polaris and cat. It would not be fun if there werent people like that, IMO. I rode doo thru the 90's and at some points it was pretty clear other sleds were better, but loyalty kept me there. Not trying to start any hissy fits lol. Ride on.

no not the best poweder sled the best mountian sled .it was in the context of mogul mashing on the trail heavy snow rutted out shoot hill climb sled. same category as assult and HCR sled none are powder sleds .
like stated above sleds have become extremely compartmentalized now days. think u would be hard pressed to find to many guys clamming doo was the best sidehiller/carver on the snow. I did get to ride the new lime green and white doo last week nice ride but like all sleds in its class hard to lay over and a trencher with the hard track .tons of power felt good on a rutted logging road but with all the stumps where we were there was no way I was taking it up a heavy stumped hill I knew I would be buying a nun and a arm

I don't hate ski-doo you are dead wrong or 2s. Yes I like Yamaha 4s for ME not for everyone or every application & you are overreacting because I don't have brand blinders on never do... never will. Yes you are very loyal to doo no doubt about that & aok with me but doo not always the best choice for everyone. I don't hate 2s told you in my last post I own an etec 150 outboard...by the way that is a 2s engine made by BRP. I'm well read too but take that stuff as information in... not the end all opinion...I like hands on actual test riding by the seat of my pants not someone else's pants. Doo makes fine sleds & I could find something that I would be ok with if I had too for my style of riding but currently not the best sled for me. I not going to address doo cranks & rings old news & is what it is been there done that. To me OP wants to know what we think not what we read & is what someone else thinks in a magazine. Just saying....IMO

As the philosopher Rodney Allen King once said, "Can't we all just get along?"

When I saw the title I figured I'd ignore it, figuring it would get combative. But nooo. I had to have a peek.:p

I called you for "unsportsman like conduct" & in my book you are taking the 15 yard penalty & that is the end result of that play. If you want an intelligent debate about any topic state it & we will go from there otherwise consider yourself ignored.... find another fish to bait. lol:)
