Getting back into sport, what sled should I buy?

GSX 4s does not lack much more snort than Viper 4s engine front exhaust, nytro was better than both enginewise but 139 ponies with rear exhaust compared to 130ish for GSX. I could not do GSX without hooks dealer said might be able to take renegade bars & install on GSX but cost to that & said hooked handlebars might hit windshield. I don't need heated seat on GSX either that end of me does not get cold.lol Just could never could get there on GSX or Renegade so now riding 2012 Apex XTX 144 with eps & luv it.:)

I'm really curious as to what the eps feels like. I've gotten used to steering my triple pig so I'm sure that you could steer with practically two fingers. Also how does that rear exhaust add more hp? Less restrictive? Those nytros and vipers don't seem like sleds that you would want to be on for long mileage. More like ditch bangers and stander uppers...

Yes I would comparer Viper more to MXZ than GSX in doo lineup but since I have seat time on both shared the info. EPS is variable so the faster you go the less eps assitance really is a lot less steering effort in tight twistys. Visit Pat's always has a few models availabe for you to demo eps no high pressure sale just ask & they toss keys to you. I was really surprised how nice the the 2014 Vector LTX 136 track handles with mono & eps nothing like it on the market. I'm a higher hp guy but 2014 Vector LTX 136 knocked my socks off for comfort & easy steering! There is some speculation that doo will incorporate eps in 2015 models which would keep them on top.....if not eps will take market share from them.IMO

Rear exhaust is a patent thing for snowmobiles with Yamaha & Yam has it all figured out with optimum engine mapping gearing & clutch performance lots of snort more poines than front ehaust no doubt about it when you ride both back to back. MPG not sure no way for me to know at this point just have to see what people get on Vipers as they put miles on afetr break in.

I've never been to pats. They are up in the UP right? Whenever we go up north we go to lando and stay at a guys house who lives on the Wisconsin border with a michigan lake preserve as his backyard. Since it's state land he will never have neighbors which makes the place so nice. I do like the snort of those four strokes, road a friends rs venture and the low end torque was like whoa hold on if you played with the throttle a bit. Have to find someone who is willing to let me try theirs out. Maybe when I'm up in Minnesota next year??? Sorry to hijack this thread...

Maybe Ski Doo will have EPS on their touring sleds and possibly the GSX line.

Rear exhaust on the Yamaha 4s sleds gave them a "cool" factor, I thought it was fine. (I had an Apex for a couple years.) But after reading the stories of maintaining the system-like when the exhaust "donut" gaskets wear out and you need to access and replace them-didn't like the sounds of that and then Yamaha hooked up with Cat and went back with conventional snowmobile exhaust-exiting down & out in front-a good thing.

For the original question of what to buy, lot of great choices available, just need to research and pick the sled that has and does what you want.

Pat's in Greenland MI probably 2.5 hrs straight up trail 3 from Lando well worth the ride to demo whatever sled Kip has used or new head to head on same trail.

Yamaha rear exhaust probably a thing of the past but not sure have to see what Yamaha does with pure Yam new platform they promised.
