Heard thru the grapevine there are a few people that have lost since noon yesterday. They are apparently wet, with sleds in a creek. Contact the americinn in silver city, or the konteka in white pine for further details. This is all I know, just got off of a night shift otherwise I would be racing to help. Please help if you can! With these temperatures they are in a terrible life threatening situation!

From Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. on Facebook

MISSING SNOWMOBILERS - PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING JUST IN FROM JESSICA LUDENIA IN MICHIGAN. 'Hey guys, I realize this is not related to the post but riders stick together and we need some help! We have two guys lost and stranded in the UP (near silver city). They've been missing since 11 am Sunday. They sent distress texts in the afternoon with rough details and location info but we have not been able to find them. They're wet (sleds in the creek) & cold. The conditions are horrible and we are unable to get air support or much help from the coast guard, dnr, or authorities simply because of the weather. We need to find these guys and we need some guys with sleds to help the search! Please lmk if you're in the area and can help!'

It would also be nice to have more info, such as where they on the trails? in the bush. Dave B posted a map of the area where they were said to be, but it looked to me to be anywhere in the UP from Lake Gogebic to Ironwood. That is a VERY big area to be looking for folks and did not make any mention of if they were on trail, off trail.

Before anyone heads out into these conditions, it would be nice to have more info to keep more rescues from having to be performed.

I have some information these are 2 White Pine residents a 40 year old man and his 19 year old son, the last text was received at 7pm last and they were on foot trying to walk out There is a command post set up at the AmericInn in Silver city. 2 teams of 2 are out searching right now. They are asking that NO ONE go out searching without going to the command center first. They would like some mountain sleds for search and rescue to use so please call (906) 885-5311 if you can loan them one

Probably a good time to say a little prayer for these guys that they found some shelter last night and will be found safe soon.

Also a good time to review our own survival and fire starting equipment and capabilities, especially for the off trail guys.

I just got word they might have found their track. Fingers crossed! This is the reason they don't want people out searching because they are hoping to find their tracks

I rode that area saturday after noon, had lunch at the kontenka. It was very windy and lightly snowing, visibility was reduced and it was cold. I did see a few sledders on southboundry rode and trail 102 to bergland without seeing anyone.. I can't even imagine walking out with those conditions. the only shelters I saw were out houses and one cabin halfway down south boundry road as some sort of look out, it would be one heck of a walk to get there.. God bless them and hope they find them soon.

I'm not sure if these are the same two that we are talking about, but TV 6 is reporting they are from MN and are in the Porcupine Mountains.

I saw this, TV6 is incorrect, they are from White Pine, Bill Johnson emergency coordinator from Ontonagon is who the information is coming from. He is at the command. Stories change the further they go. I do believe they were in the Porcupine Mountain area tho

can someone repost the map that Dave B. supposed posted. I can't find it. I know this area VERY VERY well. We just returned home from there. We followed a creek bed a little too far down a hill on Saturday just south of the Porkies and it took us a few hours to get out. One of the creek beds I fell into trying to get out had snow over 10 feet deep! Sucked getting out because it was up hill! It was a blessing to have 7 guys because eventually we had a compacted trail for guys to follow out. We were on the outskirts of the Porkies and within about 1 mile of it's border. It was crazy deep and crazy cold! We ran in to a survey crew probably 10 miles north of where M-28 and the Presque Isle river intersect. Wonder if they saw anything?

Not surprised by that. :)

Hope your info about them potentially being close to being found is correct. If it were me, I would have hunkered down, built some kind of shelter, a big fire and prayed for S/R!

What a local guy riding illegally in the Porkies? I always thought is was the "Apple Picker", "Sled Hogs" with "Long tracks" that were mucking things up! Interesting.

I hope they get out safe regardless!

Agree. Also a good Garmin GPS so exact coordinates can be texted. I don't think phone-based GPS are always accurate.

If this isn't the right time or place for this comment, I'll delete it.
