And it was one of the worst nights to be lost. The wind and snow was howling from the north all day and night. Makes me want to put a pup tent in the back of my sled.

That is exactly what I said to Mike, build a snow cave, start a fire and hope for the S/R

Based on a post on facebook it sounds like they are getting some locals with mountain sleds out there to help now, sounds like a few guys from Eagle River (not sure if WI or MI) and Mark from Timberline along with some others. Hopefully they will be found soon.

That's a worthless map. We were everywhere on that map except within the boundaries of the Porkies. I wish I was still there. I'd really enjoy giving Mark and the rest of the crew a hand at getting them out. It will be tough finding tracks. We rode the same area 3 days in row and it seems like we had the seasons first tracks every day. Damn it was deep out there! Again, I pray for safety of the 2 men and the S/R crew!

Wow...my heart just breaks for those involved. Being stranded outside last night is unimaginable. Many thanks to those involved in the S/R. Praying for a positive outcome.

I hope they didn't stray far from their sleds. They could at least use them for a source of heat or for help starting a fire.

Yeppers learned my lesson on those logging roads back in the 90s son-inlaw & I got stuck good off SB road buried with 121s & thinking what did do we just do? We dug, tugged & pulled but just trenched in & we were sitting there considering an ill advised walkout & along comes a lumber guy surveying the area on an Indy air 2up with snowshoes on his back explains how to pull front ski loop gets me moving then gets son-inlaw moving & we made it out. We waited for him to come out to thank him but he didn't show. Saw him later in SC thanked him & he acted like no big deal just all part of his day biz as usual. Good luck to these lost riders but if they use common sense they will come out aok.:)

i thought that too, with the luck i've had with my sled i might start it on fire for a signal
i do have a thin clear tube wound up and ziptied under the hood for siphoning gas just in case....

Yes - The map does not help much, but that is why they ask anyone who can assist to coordinate through their command post.

They are in dire need for anyone with off-trail capability that can assist. Please call (906) 885-5311 if you have the ability to help out.

Id set my sled on fire in a heartbeat if it meant survival. Then id hather all the timber i could and i would have one huge fire. A sled in flames would produce a ton of black smoke. Hope they get found.

The guys lost have a cabin there and are not "locals". Sounds like a cell phone ping helped reduce the search area. Hope the search crews get to them today.

They have been found! They are in good shape, dehydrated, being brought into silver city right now! They will be meeting the ambulance....GREAT NEWS!

Must've been pretty smart guys :)

A BIG Thank you to all who helped with the rescue!

In this weather, it's probably the best solution.

Two of us ran out of gas in the UP in April 1996 but we were in high school and riding 1970's sleds with no range. No cell phones or GPS obviously. We got turned off trail 8 and ended up on CR607 (didn't know it at the time - there was a record blizzard that night which we weren't prepared for). When my sled ran out of gas, I hopped on the back of the other. We came across a snowed-in old work van that wasn't locked so we jumped it it for the night. Couldn't get the sled started the next day so we walked and found some help eventually. If I remember right the lows were in the upper 20's then so there wasn't the danger these guys are in.

ohhh No...there are a few members from this site that live in Mn and have houses in White Pine.....

Hope they find them soon....


guessing but the must be between SB rd trail and the River.....
