Polaris Strikes again!!!!!

My cat handles better than my 07 Attak...and handles rough trails better than the Yami did....but I have not found a better, more plush suspension...for stutter bumps...than the mono (those sharp little rapid bumps that nail your spine)....a properly set-up mono swallows those up....medium to large bumps...the mono isn't so great in...that's where the weight of the 4 stroke can not mask it's self.....but for the average trail cruiser....a properly set-up vector LTX...or Apex (2012 or newer)..is hard to beat.

Ride a Doo with the RMotion. I too thought the Mono was the best trail skid until I rode the RMotion. Still don't like Doo's overall package though. Like the planted feeling of the Vectors!

halfpint,

I stock the bikeman kits here for the 800. I'm glad to hear it's working well for you!

I'm new to polaris so all this lack of oil talk has me concerned. ...(I assume the oilers was turned down to meet some EPA BS rules)

The you tube video posted earlier here shows turning up the oil pump 3 turns...is that part of the bikeman kit installation as well and what about the 600 liberty....should I be turning up the oiler on it....I estimate I'm at about 65 to 70 :1 after 1000 miles.

I agree...doo has the ride right now....but I too love the planted feel of the apex and vectors (and the cat F-series too)....I don't like the feel of the doo 1200 either...can't explain it...not bad... just different...I actually like the cat 1100 in the new chassis...even if it sounds like a dying cow when you give it gas....lol I'm gonna try the new ace 900...not really my type of machine...but I gotta give it a try....gonna hopefully get some seat time on a 2013 switchback pro-r 800 this weekend (my buddy's sled)...when we head to michigan this weekend.
I'm not afraid to try any brand....and will be honest about what I see and feel...but...like everybody else...what I find annoying...or what I really like may be different than what you think....but I do think people who are sour on four strokes...because they rode an rx-1 or early apex....need to give them another try...pick a brand...doesn't even matter...I prefer yami four strokes for their engines...but cat or doos four strokes are also very good.....quiet frankly...the main reason I rode Yamaha's and Cats the last 6 years...is KIP (Pat's in Greenland) and CHad (M&M in Hancock)...IMO...these are the two best dealerships I have ever dealt with....if they sold chinese diesel snowmobiles...I'd probably buy one from them....lol ;)

The 800 has short skirted pistons and a short stroke by design which creates piston slapping. The bikeman kit consists of a shim for the base of the cylinders and longer skirted pistons for better reliability. Hope this helps! Kip

snobuilder,

As I dealer, I doubt Kip can tell you to turn it up, but I would turn it up on both the 600 or 800. You don't have to take anything off but the hood and just use a long extension on the 8mm to get to it. 3 turns works well. Remember, they are FULL turns.

Lenny, just fill the gas tank with sea and snow and the oil tank with gas. You can also disconnect the odometer . From what I have read, the problem happens well after 1500 miles. If the motor doesn't know how many miles are on it,it should be ok. Let me know if you need any more tech help.

Now that is funny! LOL I got a chuckle out it. :)

The video showed 3 by doing 6, 1/2 turns. I did 3 and am using about a quart every 120 miles instead of 200 miles.

Really? Bought a new machine over the phone, switched brands, set up & delivered in under two hours?

Yamaha should latch on to that story for their Advertising and P.R. departments. That's impressive!
I did the same thing last year in Michigan, burned down my 2009 Skidoo 800 2 miles from M&M got towed back to M&M and left with a new 2013 Yamaha XTX, love it!

Just got back from trip and again no trip to my Yamaha dealer. Unlike my 72 year old friend that blew up not 1 but 2 Poo 800s, yup you heard me right, on Thursday his 2013 went down so he got his wife's 2012 that was rebuilt last year less than 1,500 miles ago and it went down on Saturday. So guess what he did ? Called Kip up and had Pat deliver a Yamaha to us at Silver City that he bought over the phone. Less than 1.5 hours later we were on our way. So even though don't drive a Polaris anymore they still continue to try and screw with my trips. Still have a 2012 Pro R 600 and a 2013 600 Adventure that will be sold sooner or later but until then .......

I wanna know how you have adjusted to a Yamaha coming off the Poo. We know it is heavier but what characteristics did you feel right away and are you discouraged with the ride, weight, handling. Do you have any regrets?

I know the Apex is supposed to only be 25 lbs. heavier than the Vector, but the Vector feels 50 lbs. lighter to me and handles twice as good. I have a lot of respect for the Vector on groomed trails. Totally different ride than my Rush, but it sure has it's place.
