Just a reminder to all who may be in or headed to the Keweenaw this week-end. The Portage Lift Bridge will be closed entirely beginning at 9 PM Saturday Jan 17th through 7 AM Sunday Jan 18th. Plan accordingly.-Mezz

With all due respect to all the snowmobilers on this board, I am thinking that one of the last things they were worried about when picking a date/time to close the bridge to all traffic was how it would impact snowmobile traffic. I suspect that they were most concerned about auto traffic for folks who use it as their ONLY way to get to and from work.

Was hoping to catch a view of some of the work from the Pasty.com cam but I'm seeing an image from last night still. The Mi Tech shot is in black and white now and you can't see much. Looks like from M&M's cam things are lit up well, but to far away to see anything.

Changing out lift cables, chain maintenance, electronics upgrades, balance counter weights, spot painting, warning gates etc...... This project is going to take a tad over a year, as such, there will be more scheduled closures & delay's in the future.-Mezz

No, and there will be no snow mat put own this year. It is still crossable as is, just doesn't sound real pretty, though, no harm done. I will refer you to Johns video posted under the Miscellaneous thread "Safe to Cross the Houghton/Hancock bridge without snow mat down". Enjoy!-Mezz

It may be safe, but I've never seen so many sparks fly in broad daylight when we crossed it last week at a slow speed. I'm not convinced no harm is done. I'd rather ride across cement or asphalt any day.
