All of these steps were taken upon finding the puddle. Bellows were inspected and good, Pipes removed, new gaskets and Hi Temp silicone replaced. Sled stays in heated garage. I fired er up today and at first when warming er up lots of black oil blowing on to ground out of exhaust. Ripped er around the property a bit and let it idle, no black oil until I pulled er in the garage and shut it down. I watched it drip slowly out from where the exhaust exits the sled. Puddle is usually the size of silver dollar. Sled seems to be running a little rich.
Is there a way to adjust the amount of oil pumped?
Maybe time for new pistons/rings?
Any more ideas, things to look at?
Thanks.
If you're sure it's oil, see if the return spring is broken / missing on the oil pump arm (Move the throttle while watching the pump arm, see if pump arm returns , or stays "stuck" in full throttle position)
Oil pump adjustment is done by adjusting the (2) 10mm jam nuts on oil cable / bracket down by the oil pump (FAR RIGHT side in the pic below, note-cable & jam nuts not in pic)
It's a real P.I.T.A. , sometimes easier to remove gas tank to get at it
There are alignment marks on the pump arm and and engine case,(Approx 3:00 position in the pic below) should be lined up at idle
Compression check should tell the story on the rings
