Thoughts on a 2005 F7 Snopro carb ?

I'm looking for something I can pound around Illinois, S. Wi, and S. Mi. with, that I won't feel too bad about tearing up a bit as tends to happen in less than ideal conditions. (sold my Apex XTX as no time to get up north anymore)

I've found a '05 F7 snopro carb for about $2400 3900 miles all appears to be stock.

I know NOTHING about these sleds, but have heard they are a ton of fun and relatively reliable.

Any thoughts on if this would make a decent ditch banger and very occasional up north sled?

Thanks guys and gals in advance.

same ultra reliable motor as on the efi. few buds who raced them were able to make them a bit faster than the same EFI with same mods .
a carb is a carb if willing to put the time in they are fine .I would say that sled is 1000 mi away from needing a top end I think the 6 and 7 can go around 5to 55 k before worrying much but getting there. 3900 mi prob real close to needing diamond drive gone through not hard but seals and bearings prob 150 in parts.
secondary bushings and rollers getting close to . prob 6k on those till shot

No sled will last without some basic maintenance and common sense. On another note, we had only one good snow this year to sled in Illinois. Wish it were better.

Like ezra said - first year of the diamond drive in the F7. Keep an eye on that because if it totally shreds it is a good chunk of change to fix. Personally not afraid of carbs. Not that hard to master choking technique. Generally a good sled for its time. Check the track for rips or tear outs or missing clips. Also the rear suspension for egged out holes on the front arm pivot. New rails about $130 each. Biggest problem with these sleds is that by now folks have modded them all to pieces. Some folks know what they are doing and some don't. Best off with a stocker which is what you seem to be looking at. Good luck.

I'm assuming the diamond drive is some sort of driven gear that acts like a chain case would in the Yamaha that I'm familiar with? Many thanks guys

The diamond drive was an engineering marvel that took the place of the chaincase until it was decided that it was not an engineering marvel after all.

So I ended up with a good deal on an '06 EFI F7 SnoPro. Got to take it out in SW MI over the weekend.

I owe all my AC friends a big apology for all the crap I've talked over the years about AC. That sled is a blast and seems to be made really well. I'll always love my Yamahas and still do (all I've ridden since '79), but that Cat had me grinning ear to ear all day. My clothes smell like Klotz and I burnt a ton of fuel, but the fun factor is definitely there. If I ever do decide to spend big bucks on a new sled again I may just have to go green.

All you ditch pickle lovers out there...please accept my humble apologies.

find a used bmp or D&D y pipe for it cleans up the burble u can get from time to time on the 05 06 and a bit more responsive.
the Diamond Drive in the 05/06 is a good unit . but I would still at minn.
drain drive in to a clean container after running it for a min with drive spinning .
then dump out on a plate or something and look for brass glimmering in the oil. if u get a metallic paint looking oil U need to pull apart and inspect . to pull out of sled u will need a lot of extensions the nut is all the way through the driver

Sounds like great advice. I'm probably done riding for the year unfortunately, but sounds like a fun job to try over the warmer months to scratch the itch a bit. It's nice to have everything accessible again on a sled. I think I'm going to stick a taller riser on it too. I'm not super tall, but I need the bars up a bit more. I'm liking how quiet it is (my Apex had a Hauck pipe on it that was obnoxious after a bit), the Y pipe won't change the noise much I assume.

Thanks for your help Ezra...you ever need tax advice look me up :)
