Thoughts please from some actual owners and riders of this sled.

Current sled is a 98 VMAX with powder skis and 1.5 inch track. Current riding is about 90 percent WI and MI trails (mostly WI), and one trip a year offtrail in the UP.

Looking for something so I can change that ratio closer to 70 percent trail, 30 percent unplowed logging roads and offtrail. Something that might handle a trip to the Black Hills, etc.

Did test drive one for a few miles recently. The switch to 4 stroke will take some getting used to, and will likely add a tall windshield (6-2, 210), but it is definitely time for some new technology.

Look at a 2016 Polaris 800 Switchback. The AXIS platform with the Genises motor you can't go wrong. Just bought a 2015 800 Rush this year. I ride 80% trail and 20% off trail. The new suspension kicks ***. My buddies that work for Polaris said that they are moving the AXIS platform into their mountain sleds. My sled is almost 200 lbs lighter than the four stoke Yamaha's. If you ride more powder run the longer track. My Rush runs lakes and unplowed roads just fine. Take a look at the new Polaris's if you can take a test ride you won't be disappointed.

Im in my 2nd year on 2014 LTX SE Viper. Before that I had 2006 Apex. Its is about a 80 -100 lbs heavier than some 2 strokes. By far the most fun to ride sled I have owned. Just gas and go. The riding position is spot on. Super reliable and proven power plant.

200 lbs.....??? Come on man.....Switchback is listed at 446 dry....the vipers range from 518 to 549 lbs dry....Heavier...Yes..but not that much. Polaris 800 is still unproven IMO....Yamaha triple 4 stroke...bullet proof...My buddy has a 2015 Ayxs Switch...it's a nice machine...but the OP is looking for a VIPER...right??

Grant...might I suggest that you go to totallyamaha.com...4 stroke section....they have a viper section...with all kinds of posts both negative and positive on the viper models.....it might be more helpful than here, if you looking for a viper.

I have a 2015 Viper Ltx le that I really like. I am taller 6'4 and like how it fits it runs strong up to about 80. The avg gas mileage was about 14 now. I do have the short wind shield think the hand warmers are not the best. But I am very happy with my purchase

Yeah, that added nothing to the conversation, but one more to the post count!

I appreciate the input, all. Handwarmers are not a big issue, I very seldom use mine now. Disappointing mileage though, you would think 17 years of technology improvement would have improved that.
