Of Course! my new truck should be in any day now. I heard they are on the way to the dealerships now. My guess is next week and will be up right after Christmas to pick it up. If so, and there is snow we will for sure have to get out on the trails.
It was cold last night -2 so ice is thickening...like Ken said doesn't take much to get the ice fishermen out there....not me yet...snowing here now calling for 3-5 today.

already the morons on the middle of the lakes here..just froze..ill never understand it..handful go thru every year

Went out on Spectacle Lake today and drilled some holes. 5 inches 100 feet out 6-8 inches out in middle maybe 20 feet of water. Should be no problem crossing with a sled now.
That's encouraging, then the next question is, will all the Vilas lakes have the trails marked by Christmas or after? St. Germain, Star Lake, Buckatoban, The Chain, Ect.
The marking of Vilas lakes is helter skelter ,imo, I prefer to drill holes and measure so I know myself in real time that ice conditions are good. When I know it is good I rock and roll and cross lakes where I have to or want to which in my case is out of my garage...lol. Clubs are very conservative which is good and in no hurry to mark lakes. Last year I was crossing North Twin 2 weeks before it was marked. Don't cross if not marked unless you know for sure that ice is good for sleds.

I do the same thing as you. I walk out and drill holes. When I see 6-8" then I'm good. I have read that's enough to support a truck. That's my requirement before I venture out on the lakes. I don't want to have to learn how to water skip across my lake and learn the hard way.
