Wisconsin Trail Pass - thumbs down

I had no idea you couldn't buy a trail pass at a gas station, and I am in Wisconsin! Thought it was just like MI - fill up the tank and buy your pass. I don't want the hassle of getting stopped to show my paperwork for the trail pass. Already went through that when I registered a vintage sled in WI. Registered sled and took it out to properly break in an engine rebuild. Saw two po-pos on 4-wheelers. I drove over to them and showed the paperwork, simply because I knew they would stop me. Despite my politeness of just offering up the registration paper work, they gave me a hard time for no sticker! I told them I just registered the sled on-line! Paperwork dated and stamped just a few hours earlier! Ran me through the gauntlet..."you been drinking?".....um, no! Really? I drove up to them!

I don't get out on the sleds much, but I am skipping WI and will just head back to my home town up da yoop way.....get my trail pass at Holiday in Calumet.....or maybe I'll just skip the MI trail pass too and ride the Dreamland trail and the old Bootjack trails.....giddy up.

Nice story,
I remember being pulled over with my Dealer plate on in MI and received a ticket because I could not prove I was a Dealer.
The DNR fella in Watersmeet was a jerk and gave me the ticket cause I would likely just pay the ticket and not drive back to Wakefield for court.

Nobody said the system was bankrupt before. What was said is that more projects were funded this year than has been funded in a long time. Many projects that had been put on hold for some time, were able to get funding this year.

The extra money available this year was actually closer to $2.3 million. But at this point I don't really think I can change your mind.

The Trail Pass has been a good thing, they way you get your passes may need some work. I would hope we could agree on that.

Based on the change from $30 per 2 year registration period to a $30 per 3 year period, if 250,000 sleds are registered in WI the trail passes need to make up a loss in revenue of $3,750,000 every 2 years to remain even.
Any claims of increased trail funding income at this point in the new process are pretentious.

The number is closer to 41,666 passes to break even every year. At $30

How do you pre-register your new sled without a Vin#? How do you get a trail pass without a registration number?

8 days from online purchase, and it was in my mailbox. Can't really complain about that, short of the lack of snow, and nobody has control over that!

Hopefully I get to put it on the sled this year......

The entire trails pass idea is a hassle. The only reason it was done was to generate more revenue to support the trails system. I am ok with paying more to fund a great trail system. But why make people jump thru so many hoops. Just build the cost of the pass into the registration. Buying a pass junks up and trashes your sled with an extra sticker on windshield. It's enough to have a registration sticker on your sled without more stickers. Registration good for 2 years. Pay it and forget about remembering to go Thur hassle of buying stickers, Yes. More people have joined AWSC or a snowmobile club but I feel confident 90% of people who joined a club never participate in the club so the big numbers don't mean anything. Out of state riders just buy a sticker at gas station or bar and enjoy your ride. Maybe trump can fix this mess !!! Lol

With all the new AWSC club members lurking here, maybe some of the AWSC insiders can post up what portion of the $10.00 out of $25.00 club membership dues goes towards trail acquisition, maintenance, grooming and building?

What, you aren't a club member?

Huh?....no just a bored member....frnash in 3, 2, 1....

Just wondering if any of the $10.00 per member that goes directly to the AWSC bank account gets used on the trails themselves.....keep hearing membership has doubled.

They could save money by not sending me three magazines for being in three different clubs for a start. One is enough per household.

If I knew the answer you wouldn't believe it anyway.

Had my sticker in less than a week.

Stopped at the Citgo station in Caspian MI as we always do to get our MI trail pass' and had my stickers in 4 minutes.

Renegade, believe it.

MI wins.
WI system NOW sucks....if you feel good about that then I don't get it.

It will take the full three years to be able to put real numbers together and see if there is more revenue for snowmobile trails, or not. My never know???

Never once did I say I felt good about not being able to get a pass over the counter. If you would pay attention you would already know this. You just want to bash AWSC and cap step any chance you get. It's obvious you really know very little about either one with your prior comments about the subjects. Reread your post about break even amounts. Not even close! You want to bash AWSC for something they have done or are doing. Go right ahead. But I'm not letting you make crap up. It's the DNR! They are not printing ANYTHING over the counter. What does cap step have to do with ATV registration? Nothing. You can't get that over a counter either. The fact is if cap step did not exist, out of state passes would still NOT be available over the counter. I would suggest your energy will better be served calling and complaining to the DNR instead of spreading false rumors on the internet!
