Lack of Grooming from Trail 3 in Houghton to the Super 8 Motel

As the title reads..the access trail hit the unrideable condition today. There are hundreds of foot high washboard bumps about one foot apart. I do not believe it was groomed once all season. If you don't groom it for the tourists, groom it for the Houghton locals and MTU students.
Unacceptable!

What gives?

It's not an "official" DNR designated trail. Therefore we cannot groom it legally.

Must be your first time staying at the super 8 eh? I always thought those moguls were on purpose to keep the speed down..... All the more reason to stop half way and have a glass at the KBB!!! Much easier to make the last half after a rest ya know.....

That, and how the breakfast has gone downhill are the only drawbacks to staying there. I figure I'll put up with both to save $30+ per night compared to the Ramada. Although walking across the parking lot to MM's is a good plus for the Ramada.

Definitely Ramada as first choice but is was 139 vs 74 per night Sunday through Wednesday and Sunday was booked. I am done with the 8 though, those moguls are bad for the sled. Reminds me of the access trail behind the old Holiday Inn in Hurley from the late 90's; brutal.

The breakfast at the super 8 is hardly a breakfast anymore... Pretty dissapointing. On the plus side the old Travelodge now known as quality Inn and suites has an excellent continental breakfast but boy did the price of that place sky rocket...

Where the heck do you park when you stay at that place Indy? Trucks or sleds? Don't know if I would sleep if I had to park everything that far away....

It must be the new "quality" that propped up the prices; LMAO. Unfortunately, it is still a Travelodge.

Good question, I chuckled yesterday as I ate at the seafood restaurant kitty corner from the Quality Inn and saw sled tracks criss-crossing the main road.
Maybe back-packing in is better?

This tread makes me think back to why I bought a few acres and built a place to sled out of in the first place. ...lol .
Thanks for the jolt because it sometimes gets old riding out of the same place....as I slowly lose my mind this won't be as big a dealio.

Breakfast at the Ramada is a joke...

What are they offering? Super 8 only has waffles, prepackaged sweet roll, one kind of yogurt, bread for toast, hard boiled eggs and 2 kinds of dry cereal. So so coffee, milk and I think OJ.

They used to have a lot of donuts, rolls, bagels, and I'm pretty sure some egg dishes or maybe even some premade omelets.

Super 8s worse... I've stayed at the Ramada, super 8, and quality inn/Travelodge this year. The most dissapointing part is the prices have doubled what they were a few years back, Travelodge is triple!!! The Travelodge has tons of muffins, bagels, bread, prepackaged rolls, mini donuts, tons of fresh fruit, cheese omelets, they switch up every day between sausage and bacon, 4 kinds of yogurt, 3 kinds of cereal, hardboiled eggs, waffles, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things... their coffee is excellent and they have awesome cookies at all times of the day in the lobby. If only it wasnt so expensive... as to parking there, I just had my sled in the back of my truck so I was able to park in the main lot.

John,
Is it actually illegal to groom or just the DNR won't pay for it to be groomed? Could it be groomed if the businesses that benefit from pay to have it groomed? Asking because I remember when da Flowage by bonds falls was open they had to pay their local club to groom their feeder trail and also think the casino in Watersmeet pays for their trail also.

PD and SB... Do you two like each other or not? Either way I enjoy the ball busting.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those scenarios where you two make each other better? Bird-Magic, Skidoo-Arctic Cat, Yankees-Red Sox stuff... : )
