Thank you message

Houghton County Sheriff & DNR. We, local residents, appreciate the work you do. Enforcing the Snowmobile rules and regulations especially in the Twin Lakes area. When some snowmobilers put on their helmet their brains vacate their head. They forget what a stop sign means, don't understand the no trespassing laws, don't understand the noise regulations and don't purchase trail stickers. Write those tickets until they comply. Thank You, keep up the good work.

The new stuff is nice. From all brands. I get really tempted sometimes. The new 8000 Cat. Maybe try an 850 Doo. Even Pol is getting their 800's to stay together. But 13 thou for maybe 6 weeks a year????? I will keep riding my old junk. Not in Mich though. Quit that zoo long ago.

It is written that there are still places in the UP where no hordes of people can be found. ;)

I can't even imagine the BS the locals have to deal with, even with the law around.

puzzled that these things keep popping up. Don't go where you don't belong, be courteous, and don't freaking cross the center. And tip your bartender.

sounds like the locals get riled with the out-a-staters messin' up the as.s groove they got worn into their favorite bar stool....can't blame them for that....

sometimes I think about sellin the northwoods home I've been paying relatively high R.E taxes on for 17 years,.... most of which goes to keep the local schools open.

Well the thread starter lives in TL, and doesn't have an arse groove worn into a bar stool, so that's not it. Locals not being able to sit at their favorite bar stool isn't the problem.

Went to the UP for 3 or 4 years about ten years ago. I don't pretend to know where to go off the map. I didn't know anybody there to clue me in and I didn't want to tresspass so I am stuck on the trails. I was a tourist. I was never stopped for anything and I never saw a checkpoint. My problem is that there is so much traffic on the trails there is no way the groomers can keep up. It is not for lack of trying - it is just impossible. Also I saw everything from absolute rookies that stopped in the middle of the trail and couldn't figure out how to re-start their sleds because the kill switch was on to trail racers coming at me three wide. The trail system in Mich is about the last place I would ever take my own kid to ride. It is no mystery to me why folks get killed and maimed up there. It is also no mystery why the local landowners and the locals in general get weary of the 'tourists'. There are those people that think that if they are on vacation anything goes. If I lived there and was familiar with all or some of the hidden places to go then things would be different. The area is kind of a victim of its own success.

Keep saying over and over get off 3 and ride 50-70 miles east & north of WM and will find little used trails and unplowed Frs. Of couse not much else other than twistys and trees but no traffic.... 2006- 2017 Sleds have good range to get you to the next gas stop and you need a bit of planning but very doable. You stay on trail 3 corridoor thru the snow belts and you will have to compete with every type of sledder out there in low Midwest snow winters. I have no idea why riders don't explore more remote groomed trail areas the rewards are well worth it.

I must admit that I often use stop signs as yield signs. I did get an expensive ticket in Lakewood. After hearing of people getting pulled over in the UP for stop sign violations I will likely start coming to a full stop. I do not like check points, but loud pipes and trespassing are the two biggest reasons for trail closings. Residents living near trails deserve a safe and tolerable environment to live it. We all need to appreciate their situation and show respect.
