Keep saying over and over get off 3 and ride 50-70 miles east & north of WM and will find little used trails and unplowed Frs. Of couse not much else other than twistys and trees but no traffic.... 2006- 2017 Sleds have good range to get you to the next gas stop and you need a bit of planning but very doable. You stay on trail 3 corridoor thru the snow belts and you will have to compete with every type of sledder out there in low Midwest snow winters. I have no idea why riders don't explore more remote groomed trail areas the rewards are well worth it.

and to take it even closer..i rarely left the mass area..on trail..put on 4k..hit 3 bad trails when my buds had to go to goegibic..its all about knowing where and when..since i dont go west..cant imagine where id go..and 3 hit right is the greatest trail ive ever ridden fast(although i found another one this trip)..

Dan you HAVE to get out the 3 rut!....lol.... Research 15n, 15s, 2, 111,18,16,14,107 ,109 the pipeline to Lanse even the 13 loop from Pat's is sooooo much better than 3. Sure 3 thru the Kee is special but sooo much more than 3 grade thru the Mass area. Come on Man!!! :) lol

We rode the Freda and on a separate trip we rode the 109 outside of Mass to Kenton and back on 3 back to the Mosquito, 109 is fast as heck mid-week when the grooming is super.

seems that's the attitude of many uprs. what is wrong with stopping at a stop sign, staying on trail, buying a trail pass.

Well I'll wait to hear from Dan but if preference for grade.... ride 3 south to 2 grade then point your sled east from WM and put the hammer down some 65-70 miles later if still alive have a burger in Florence. A little different ridng 2 grade east , wfo, no tree tunnel in IR area and you will be airborn if you go wide there but nice wide open views and little to no traffic....lol. Only thing you need to be aware of is drifting snow since so open and triple digits to 30mph tends to jumble your internals if you don't go over the bars.lol. :) That area was a 2 stroke wrecking machine for me in my wfo grade riding days....fun as **** but killed our 800 2s.

I must admit that I often use stop signs as yield signs. I did get an expensive ticket in Lakewood. After hearing of people getting pulled over in the UP for stop sign violations I will likely start coming to a full stop. I do not like check points, but loud pipes and trespassing are the two biggest reasons for trail closings. Residents living near trails deserve a safe and tolerable environment to live it. We all need to appreciate their situation and show respect.

when I am marking I always use a yield when I can . never give the cops a excuses to mess with people . do not get why guys mark open driveways with stops no one stops any way and just a reason for Johnny law to let u know he is the authority and u need to respect it

Uprs? Really?

That'll be (click →) "Yoopers", please. (Yes, after 40+ years, it finally made it into the dictionary!)
And of course "Yoopers refer to people who live in the Lower Peninsula as "trolls" (they live "under" the Mackinac Bridge, after all)."
"The few, the proud, the Yoopers!"
Huh, what, oh da Marines? Yea, dem too, eh? :loyal:

From The Washington Times, September 26, 2016:
(click →) "Marine Corps may end classic recruiting slogan ‘The Few, The Proud’ ".
See also Snopes: (click →) "Marine Corps May Change ‘The Few, the Proud’ Slogan".
[I'm callin' dibs! (fer da Yoopers, eh?)! :encouragement:]

God's area code: 906. No wonder "Hеll" and "Paradise" are here, eh? :triumphant::

i only ride 3 at night..cuz its right there..rode 109 sidnaw, rode lanse, rode 8 east, and the white pine ditch on 12, and 12 by roseauu..onto trails and 137.. dont even know the others..dont like the 13 loop cuz im not a twisty guy..im sure those others are fine..but like i said..im always on good trails and havent felt the need to venture that far..i dont do 300 mile days, dont need to..but next year if u want to meet halfway and do some of those..im in..i can stay at a motel by you for a night..

we used to run run run, i guess i just do what im happy with..prob avg 125 to 150 most days..and flat snow here is the same as flat snow there..sightseeing isnt big for me, as i travel all year..and i like to be where people know me UP there

Dan a little back ground may help...My main riding bud for 10-15 years was a motorcycle dragster and at 6'6" he would luv to lay down on his sled and ride wfo on any and all grades. He luved speed and so do I but I liked twistys too and he hated them .lol... I evolved in the last 10 years or so to seek out UP twistys with no traffic to escape the Vilas madness and now prefer twistys with my xtx EPS. My current riding buds know to let me out front on grades and the wide open stuff or I will be pressing them to let me by. Otherwise I will fall way back give them a few miles headstart then rock and roll at my pace. Some peeps luv to ride sleds but just can not deal with triple digits speed which I understand and if not comfortable I don't want them riding at those speeds. At my current age pace is most important to me with my big mile riding buds. My last leg home from UP is all unplowed Frs that can thump you or suck you in so I have to have energy to get thru that at days end and that section is 20 miles of nothing. In any event I can adjust my riding style to whatever it needs to be to the level of the riders in a given group. I won't ride very long with a putt putt group on wide open UP trails tooooo boring for me an I will ask if ok to meet them at chosen bar/grill. Most seem to understand some don't but no fun for me to putt put for hours when my sled is set up to rock and roll at high speed. On Vilas trails speed is a huge issue just not safe imo to haul balls to me or other riders on those Twisty trails. I still ride faster than most on eastern trails but west of Conover it is just too risky with all the traffic. Prolly be best to meet half way some where to Lanse maybe Sidnaw as I think you would like that RT on the pipeline not a grade but wide open mix and back that is really fun. :)

the route we take up 15 to from IR to L'Anse is a good blend of what we like to ride...and of course home on 107. That is ALWAYS a great 280 miles (round trip) of good times. Wish we were doing that today!
