Liquids that don't freeze easily

Okay boys and girls. Looking to ride in this not so warm weather and due to my asthma, if I don't stay hydrated, I tend to have more issues. Water is usually best for me, but running at negative temps, I find my water bottles freeze fairly quickly. We ride hard - most of our trips are 200-300 per day. Usually only stop when our fuel is low. So I carry fluids, but looking for something other than water that might have a lower freeze point. Any thoughts?

Vodka. Or Jameson. Thats my go to. Anything that will hydrate ya will freeze. A very good thermos with hot stuff in the morning might last. Did soup that way a couple times.

Liquor!! It is about the only thing that won't freeze here right now other than anti-freeze! LOL! Is a there an area on your sled that you can store near a source of warmth? Older sleds with seat storage usually were close enough to the heat exchanger to keep things from completely freezing. Just a thought.-Mezz

Might try a heated map bag/handlebar/dash bag??? Agree with Mezz. A lot of sleds now days seat storage too far from heat exchanger though.

Rider with asthma here-my go to trick is to get a stainless steel coffee thermos, the kind that comes with a small cup that screws to the top. Boil water and throw it in there. Keeps it hot all day. If too hot to drink, throw a little snow in there.

Hope it helps!

not sure on taste or hydration properties, but beet juice is used as a deicer and to fill tires. If it is safe for roads and noncorrosive, it must be good to drink right?

Sports drinks and chicken broth will have a lower freezing point due to their salt content. Hot water in a good thermos is probably the best idea. Drinking extremely cold fluids is probably not a good idea regardless of it's freezing point.

lol nothing like getting the chits in the woods and having to race to get your bibs off and out of the way all while attempting to keep the mud turtle's slippery head in the shell . and that would be best case scenario lol

You could try a hydration pack but where it under you jacket where it would stay warm. Route the drinking tube under your jacket and it shouldn't freeze either.

Liquids with sugar freeze much slower. The temp spread for freezing is always over 10F. Not quite enough for these temps, but you will get more out of the container before hitting the slush. Sugar liquids also slush longer before turning to ice.
