The Season in Review with Pictures

With things winding down from another season on the snow we thought it'd be a good time to post your highlights and maybe a picture or two. With snows all around us, our local trails never opened. Our trip to Price County was great but some health issues following that trip limited my season to just one trip. Apparently, riding snowmobiles is one of the worst things you can do for your back according to my Chiro. The constant motion, up and down, back and forth for a guy my age and only average conditioning is cause for some moderate pain. (I'm not a kid anymore but I guess I still ride like one.) The Doc's got me straightened out and all is good but by the time I was back to 100% the snows were going fast. I did get the oil and filter changed and I still want to blast the suspension with a pressure wash before putting her to bed for the summer. We'll be ready to go at the first signs of snow next winter.

Rode a lot of nice trails this year in 4 counties surrounding my home in Manitowish Waters. Obviously is nice to able to ride mid week and right from place. Sharing some of the best trails that we rode this winter, really never had any bad trails to be honest! The pictures of my place were taken last week, I think it must have been a record year for snowfall here in Manitowish but I am now ready for the getting closer to the picture of open water!

I just have to comment on this - snowmobiling, for me, is one of the BEST things for my back! I know it seems like the opposite, but its just how I work. My chiro guy can't figure it out... but says if it works for you, keep doing it! Of course I'm not riding ass draggers anymore though... or that would not be the case.

I have ridden 8 days so far this winter and have about 1075 miles on, went on a club trip in NW MN in January, rode twice from home in February, mostly in ND, and rode 3 times in March. We still have lots of snow so I hope to get out at least a couple more times in April to ride cross country in some fields or on the rivers. Yeah, this is the first time I've had any issues. The Chiro said it was probably a combination of things and snowmobiling was what tipped the scales. First ride, lots of motion, and a guy re-living his youth, something's gotta give!

With L4, L5, and S1 fused in 2019. and not being able to fully stand straight up without pain or walk long distance. I have 0 problems riding! I took friend that is about 10 years younger than me for the first time. On our way back he said you know before we left I asked the other guys you ride with how you did with your back. I said, so what this the out come? His comment back was, "They all said you get on the sled and it is like, there is a joint lube you hose attachment for your back to plug into and you just ride. And they were not kidding!" I just laughed.

With that said, I had to take a picture of this guy, He is finding a way to make it work and deserves credit! This is at the intersection of Trail 8 and 47 in the Eastern UP just northwest of Strongs

Gary a few tricks for your back are sixsixone with spine protection then wrap your lower back over sixsixone with a back thing. This stabilizes your back for bumps and studders. No problem for me riding big miles for 2 days 3rd day is touch and go. I’ve been riding with back thing for 30 years added sixsixone in the last 15 and helped a lot. If not riding with a back support now is the time.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Not sure if this is a one-time thing or something that happens again. Guess we'll find out next season.

Great idea for a thread Gary.

I had so many pics from this season I don't even know where to start. Awesome year for sure. One week based out of our place in Florence. Was able to ride with Venture North, Whitedust, Euphoric1, my son and even met Goofy600 while he was out grooming.

Then we went out to Island Park/West Yellowstone for the first time and all I can say is WOW. I may have posted some of these already a few weeks ago but wasn't sure.

@lofsfire I know a guy that rides with his wheelchair strapped to the sled! He lives in the Stevens Point area - not sure if he’s still on a Yamaha, but that’s what he did! Strapped it to the back of the sled and rode!

Looks like this thread is a poor mans version of the Guest Shots folders!

Guys, these are great! If anyone questions your reasons for snowmobiling, show them some of the smiling faces on this thread. It's why we work the long hours and pay the prices we do to allow for a few days with old buddies and new friends. I think one of my favorites so far is the one with a group of guys, at night, standing at an intersection, talking to what looks like a Groomer Op. Just shootin the bull, looking for their next hot meal or the best trails home. If there's a better way to spend your free time during the winter, I don't know what that would be. Keep the pictures coming!
