Michigan Trail pass increase

I think it does get to the "one-timers" a bit. Hard to justify the cost for 3-5 days. Too bad they don't have a 7 day pass or something similar like some states do for fishing lic.

I get trying to say I only ride the UP for a day or two but let’s talk reality. The DNR pays millions of dollars each year to clubs for equipment and grooming costs etc. last year at the $52 if you rode 10 miles of groomed trail that burned up that $52. So in the case of the club I am part of the DNR gave us a new $400,000 tractor and a $38,000 drag then paid us $5.30 per mile that we groom so as stated you get a lot for $52. People don’t have a problem dropping a hundred dollar bill on a dinner that only satisfies your hinder for a few hours but wants to complain about a trail pass. There is a big post about this on doo talk also and look at the prices that they pay in Canada for trail passes or out on the east cost Michigan is still dirt cheap. Sorry if it sounds like a rant but just want people to see reality. No skin off my back if people don’t want to pay and ride Michigan that means less traffic for me to deal with while I’m riding.😁

Well worth the money Jim, even if for the day, your club trails were nothing short of perfect last year!

That's how it was for us when we rode Ontario in the early 2000's. When I suggested that to some of the powers-that-be in MSA (now MISORVA) a number of years ago, they poo-pooed it as "too difficult". 🙄

Just curious to those who suggest they come out with a one day pass. How much would be a fair price for one day? At $65 there isn't much you can do for a day at that price. I have seen prices for concerts or a good comedy show cost triple to quadruple that for a couple hours of entertainment. The money these tractors cost and price of fuel add up really fast. Personally I think it still too low. The permit will stay this price for 5 years. Hopefully fuel doesn't stay where it's at or this increase it going to cut it for all these hard working clubs. The one area Mi. is dropping the ball is on the orv stickers. They need to be higher so they can do more repairs on all the damage these machines do.

Agree with everything but the $100 meal 😏. I am cheap so I tend to spend less and tip large….

I agree hermie... still too cheap! There will always be the argument that the trails were "crap" "what am I paying for" but there are so many variables affecting trails on a daily basis that no one has any control over. We all know times to avoid certain trails and areas and again depending on traffic and conditions hard to maintain the perfection expect when paying to ride them but regardless...the costs are always there to maintain the system and we are all witness to the rising costs of everything. It's like owning a business, there are always operating costs, that is the one constant and they don't give jack sh** about what's coming in. Me, $65 still way too cheap.

LOL! I try to reserve one nice meal for one of the nights on my trip, I never scoff at food prices, have my favorite stops, eats and atmosphere, make it a point to have regular stops and like yourself I too tip large

My take on it is we will spend anywhere from 10k to 20k+ on the machine.... 50k to 100k on the vehicle to tow the trailer we spent 5k to 15k on, then if you are a 2s guy $50 atleast on a gallon of oil, at times last year I had put up to $50 in the tank of the sled twice a day $100 plus a night to stay somewhere, not to mention the fuel in the vehicle to get there and back and $65/season is going to crimp someone's style? maybe the sport isnt for you LOL

Some of us remember the days of no grooming, monthly grooming or weekly grooming. The monster moguls that about a mile down the trail you were thinking “should I turn around”, but you pressed on. Just to rethink turning around 500’ later. But you pressed on regretting not turning around earlier. At the end of the day you had 25 miles for 4 hours of riding. Then going out the next day and putting 35 miles down.
This last season I was reminded of those moguls on a sled that had 10” more suspension, is 9” wider, 16” longer track and cost 30x more than that 70’s sled.
$65 - sign me up…..

How true! how primitive things were compared to today and we still rode, pushed on, running boards that were only inches from the ground, grooming?.... what's that? and again we still rode, and that's all we cared about. Now with all the accessories and creature comforts we have today its funny how we just expect more...more...more LOL! Of course we wouldn't have even considered a 200+ mile day back then either LOL!
