    Building / Shop advice

I really appreciate the advice you guys have shared. Some great ideas! I am not in the market for a barn currently but I would seriously look at airplane hanger doors on one end. A friend lives on a private airstrip and it makes maneuvering so much better, and you don't have issues when...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Well I have a few more pictures, spent today working on the Centurion. I mentioned earlier in the thread I was unable to get spark, well the problem was, this sled had a tether but I didn't have the cord or the bulb that pushed the button in to make contact. I figured this out a while ago, and...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

So I have made some pretty good progress on the Centurion, just didn't have any time to post pictures. I got the rear skid mostly completed, just waiting on rear shock and hyfax. Drained all the cooling system and had to replace the hose that went from upper water manifold to water pump. Had to...

I don't have a answer for you on the brown case sealer Kelly, but my guess is somebody used whatever they thought would work. I have heard that the sealants back in the day weren't always effective, heck maybe someone used plumbers sealer on it! I guess it gives a clue that someone has been...

At least you should keep some refreshments close by, alcohol is a good cleaning solution!! It removes any fingerprints. If oil was poured into the engine, and said oil level was above the seal (or any hole where fasteners attach), it could have seeped through to the area you mentioned. Unless...

Well Kelly that's too bad on the high idle problem. You could spray the clutch side crank seal with WD-40 and see if it changes anything? I always turn the idle screws down as far as I can on Mikuni round slide carburetors. This allows the pilot system to operate correctly and doesn't create a...

So with a little bit of luck, I was able to free up the piston in the caliper. An extra master cylinder and line makes bench bleeding so much easier and that allowed me to use the hydraulic pressure in the line to get the piston out. Kind of messy but I will take that win! Also got to install...

I can't believe how much difference it looks with just a few parts installed for "morale " purposes! Quick question Kelly, If you need to change a belt, is it difficult? Do you have to take anything apart? Looks a lot different than modern sleds...... by the way they(modern) look different...

So true Kelly, they aren't too difficult once you dig into them. Sometimes it is mind over matter and the fear of the unknown as you disassemble one for the first time. I took your approach, kept my focus on the Polaris TX generation of sleds 1976-1981 so for the most part they didn't change...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Kelly, I don't have many distractions whenever I am in the trailer........ no TV, radio house phone etc. people have stopped by and I never heard them.......... luckily the trailer is insulated so I can leave tools out and get right back to work when I can find some time. I have power in the...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Well I wasn't successful in removing the piston from the caliper today, I need to get a little creative. I was able to push it in so I know it isn't stuck. So with that at a standstill, I decided to pull the track and skid. This sled is so much better shape suspension wise. No egged out holes...
