My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Well today I removed the rear skid and disassembled it, I also removed the driveshaft and track. One of the drivers is pretty chewed up from something hitting it. I might have a spare around here.....

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Yes I agree with you Kelly, I want to keep them as original as I can. It appears that this year had brackets bolted and riveted to the slide rails, and the following year they were cast as one piece. I am sure it was to reduce cost, both in materials and labor to assemble. I have included...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

I use Berryman B12 carb choke and throttle body cleaner.....in a aerosol can, and a tooth brush or q-tips. It's the best carb cleaner I have found and it's available at many parts stores. Some carbs might take a soak but even as nasty as these were they cleaned up great in a few...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

So the latest updates, I got the TXL carburetors cleaned up. The only thing that really worked, and worked well is Berrymans B12. That stuff works wonders!!! I ordered new needles &seats for the TXL just waiting for them to arrive. Pulled the primary clutch cover off, looks like weight...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Found the jet needle tonight, it was stuck in the jet in the bottom of the carburetor. I don't know what happened to the clip that is supposed to hold it in the slide, but at least it didn't get into the engine! Pictures added again hope you enjoy &#65533...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

We got a few more parts removed today from my TXL, carbs clutches exhaust and fuel pump. Things are pretty gummed up at the moment, but after a soak should be good to go. I actually had a brand new needle for the missing one on the TXL, it is in a artic cat bag so it has to be from my old...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Sometimes you have to pick up where you left off, or in my case start over with the same but different sleds. I found these local at a estate sale, parked in a barn since 1991 & 1997. Supposed to be one owner sleds. I let all my spare parts go with my last two so hopefully I don't need to hunt...

Hi everyone, I am rebuilding a P-85 primary clutch and need to replace the bushing on the movable sheave and the bushing retainer. I understand it needs to be pressed out, or heated up, just wondering which way it needs to go? Out the bottom or in towards the towers? I have access to a press but...

    Polaris PERC questions

Hey folks, i was wondering about putting a 2001 polaris 600 ves motor in a 2005 sled. I was told that the gearing for the oil pump and waterpump is different between the two, and the oil pump From the 2005 wont pump enough oil if i try to use it on the 2001 engine. Ladies and gentleman, here is the start of my latest project for this upcoming winter. I rescued this little gem, or germ, (you can decide) that you see from a mosquito infested back yard from a gentleman this summer. I know its a little rough, and my plans are to fix the basics, upgrade the...
