1-29-18 Trail Update (Minocqua, Lac du Flambeau)

Took a 70 mile loop to check out trails in Minocqua, and Ldf areas. First the bad...the trails through town (in Minocqua) are trashed...snirty, icy, and rough....the Bearskin is Fair to Poor at best from Lake Minocqua to Hazelhurst..it does get a bit better the further south you go (fair...

What a weekend!!...Havent seen this many sleds out in years. Northwoods business owners are grinning ear to ear today. That being said...the trails took a bigger punch than expected, with the high traffic and warm conditions...the Hiawatha is in rough shape ..it was too warm to groom, and sleds...

    Tomahawk -northern Wisconsin updated. 1-21-18

The bad news is the trails took a hit over the weekend with warm temps, and very heavy traffic. They are currently in fair to poor condition...especially the railroad grades. The good news is we are currently under a winter storm warning, most of the northwoods is in the 6 to 10 inch band, and...

Lake Tom to mcnaughton was excellent as was sugar camp (and the hodag trails we were on)...it was just a bit thin in the thick pine forested areas...otherwise it was...

    Tomahawk area - Northern Wisconsin

Looks like 2 to 4 inches for most of the northwoods, except 5 to 8 inches west and north of minocqua... (lac du flambeau, Mercer, and northern price county.)...anything over 3 inches will make the trails very nice from tomahawk and north...we have a good base, and with the cold weather expected...
