    A March Vintage Afternoon

Excellent! How cool would that be, to meet the man himself! I'll bet he would even autograph my Skiroule RTX shirt. He is probably a little surprised that his sleds are still extremely popular and live on, long after production ended. When the production RTX models came out in 1972, they...

    What'd I Miss?

Yikes Gary, you really got slammed! It's a never ending battle to stay ahead of the scammers/hackers, reminds me of the old "Spy vs Spy" cartoons. Glad that no major financial loss was incurred, but what a pain. It totally disrupts your life.

    A Perfect Ice Fishing Finish

Yeah, it had a pretty good bend and I had to crank my drag up some to gain any ground. I use fairly heavy braided so I don't worry too much about breaking a line unless it's a bite-off. I have become a big fan of the Fenwick ice fishing rods, super-sensitive tip but strong enough to handle a...

    A Perfect Ice Fishing Finish

In my experience, this is not normal at all. I would expect around 15 - 18" for this spot at this time of year. Last year was a low ice year and conditions had deteriorated to the point where it wasn't even safe to get there after the end of March. I guess the relentless cold this winter was...

    A Perfect Ice Fishing Finish

Every spring I try to time my last ice fishing outing for late March or early April when the ice conditions are still good, the weather is much warmer, and you pretty much have the lake to yourself. This year worked out perfect. Temps were low 40’s, sunny to light overcast day, the lake was like...

    What Happens in Vegas....

Great stuff and great shots Gary. Glad you conquered the "Old 96er". Hopefully you got a T-shirt or at least a hat.

    3 Old Guys; Daily Update

Gary, like others, I’ve eagerly awaited each daily update and can’t thank you enough for taking the time to keep us updated on the guy’s daily progress. These guys almost made it look easy but it had to take a huge amount of planning and the ability to switch to “Plan B” if the situation...

    A March Vintage Afternoon

Thanks guys! It’s awesome to know that you appreciate these old sleds. It seems like each project had a different set of challenges to overcome but were always rewarding in the end. I’ve learned a lot. I suppose the psychiatrists would say I’m trying to re-live my lost youth and maybe that’s...

    A March Vintage Afternoon

It was suggested last year by garageguy and goofy600 this year that I try to get a photo of my vintage sleds in a single shot. I did get manage to get everything running in time to get them outside today, which turned out to be a nice, sunny day. By a lot of vintage guy's standards, my...

    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

Maybe a couple in case of dehydration but for sure there will be one sitting on the dash at the end of the ride.

All of the above, plus a good supply of elk sticks.

    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

Day 3: Snow fell the night before, temps cooled and the sun came out on the day of the show at the Mosquito Inn and made for a great show. The show was open to both vintage and classic sled categories. This includes the Indy wedge sleds, which were well represented at the show and on the rides...

    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

Day 2: The ride planned for the second day was roughly the same distance as the first day but included a lunch stop at a local establishment before making the return trip. The sled count increased to over 60 for this ride and I’m told would have been more if it hadn’t started in the rain. All...

    Boondock Inn/Mosquito Semi-Retired Iron Classic 2025

I figured that since this thread does involve sledding and an area of the U.P. many of you are familiar with, I’m hoping it is of interest. I had a little trouble figuring how to break it up but decided to split it into three posts, one for each day of the event. I apologize in advance for the...

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

There’s always next year, think they’ll still be making creamy dark. I’ll have one ready. The Boondock Inn/Mosquito Inn vintage weekend kicked off today with the “Iron Butt” ride, which ended up being just under 50 miles. About 50 sleds turned out for this ride with roughly 60% sporting leaf...

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

I sold my 18 footer and they would have easily fit in that but this is only a 12 so it would take a lot of jockeying and even then I'm not sure it could be done. Would be nice to still have the 18 but couldn't justify two trailers. Maybe I need less sleds....never considered that option.

    Mosquito Inn Vintage Snowmobile Show

Well Gary, when it comes to vintage sleds, it’s not much of a stretch to say “the one that I can get started.” It’s not always a given. A 71 triple is an awesome (and very hard to find) sled. You were wise to hold onto it. I do like the 79’s. I’ve been riding this particular 340 for over ten...
