    Fear the Deere

Yeah Mezz, I have to confess that I eventually use filler but I try to keep it to a minimum. When I do use filler on bare aluminum I use an aluminum-based filler, such as USG All Metal, which is way stronger than typical autobody filler. You can only hammer so long before you need to take a...

    Fear the Deere

Great suggestion and that would be a smart way to do it but being smart is not my normal style. One skill I always wished I had achieved was the ability to weld and more importantly, weld aluminum. It would save me a lot of headaches trying to find a welder willing to take on small jobs. My...

    The Snowmobile Alphabet

Otter - OK, I cheated on that one and had to look it up. Yes, there really was an Otter snowmobile built around 1964, kind of a goofy looking machine. Apparently only about 20 were ever produced so it was not a big success.

    Fear the Deere

Sorry that the project has been a little quiet. I had planned to hit it hard lastweekend but the Cub Cadet threw a wrench in those plans, which caused me to throw a lot of wrenches. A transmission spring that probably cost 4 cents to make brought the whole system to its knees. Of course...

    It's 2024, Let's Fish!

Yeah, the Northern Pike and Muskies are super-agressive now, they must sense that winter is coming. Lots of Muskie guys from Wisconsin up here this time of year. Totally agree with you guys on this. Removing the Y-bones is not real difficult and you end up with big, boneless slabs of great...

    It's 2024, Let's Fish!

I’m sure the guys that actually target these fish do much better but he’s still a pretty big boy and most likely the biggest fish I’ll catch this boat season. No gales of September on Lake of the Woods today, beautiful day.

So.......I started a project, My new Garage!

That is one happy kid! Garage looks amazing. Years from now you'll still look at it with the pride of a job well done.

    1996 Polaris RXL.

Mike, based on one of your earlier posts, I gather that you've talked to the people over at Sled Printers. I've only dealt with them once (on the Chaparral project) but they were super to deal with. Corey was the fellow I worked with and he was extremely helpful. I'm hoping to have them...

    Hay Days

Looking forward to some reports from the event. One of my sledding/vintage buddies is attending for the first time. It will be interesting to get his take as well.

    1996 Polaris RXL.

It's little details like the decals that really make a build stand out. I used to poke a little fun at eBay but now I can't believe how much stuff I've bought off the site. In fact, just today a secondary showed up at the house.

    1996 Polaris RXL.

YES! I think a lot of people on here can relate to the wedge sleds and they will follow this build closely whether they comment or not. I’ve only ever seen one RXL in person. A buddy of my brother had one and I remember it being pretty fast and could run with the later XLT and Ultra models...

What are you most excited for?

Awesome sled! You certainly work some magic with those 90’s sleds. That 650 of yours is better than showroom. Like seeing things get built and then put to the test. It will be a memory making trip. You really should have a thread in the Vintage section on this build. It would be great to follow...

    Fear the Deere

Yeah, I’m thinking he corkscrewed on one or more jumps and landed with all the weight on a single rail tip. These sleds are tail heavy to begin with and when you add rider weight that’s a lot of force. Even after repairing the suspension, I became increasingly suspicious that the entire chassis...

    Fear the Deere

Thought I’d slip in a quick post, really looking forward to photos of Euphoric1’s Evinrude photos. Hope he is able to upload some. I dug out a couple of old archived photos of what I discovered with the suspension when I got the Cyclone home. The guy I bought it from confessed that he used to...

    Old Evinrude

Very nice! Will make a nice showpiece for the tiki hut (unless you end up using it for fishing).

    Have you noticed?

Well, I’m 75 years old so believe me, I’m very familiar with shrinkage :D. I guess companies feel that they’ve pushed the price of their product as high as will sell and now have to eliminate and downsize to maintain price. Pretty disappointing for a guy that used to buy a 1/8 lb Big Time candy...

    It's 2024, Let's Fish!

Love the bluegills and sunnies. Never caught any in Lake of the Woods but we used to get them when we fished the St. Croix river east of the Twin Cities. Nothing more fun than stumbling onto a school of hungry bluegills.

    Fear the Deere

Thanks for posts Heckler and Gary. You know I love this stuff! The 340/S was a preview of things to come but I think 76 was really the breakout year for Deere. I always liked the 76 design but until I picked up the Cyclone, I didn’t appreciate how much fun they are to ride. Some would say it’s...
