    Hay Days

One of these years I need to do this, hard to turn down a free beer.

    Your Drinking Buddy

We should get together and drink alone sometime, although as George Thorogood says: "When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself."

    Fear the Deere

I’m glad you guys are on board with one more of my vintage sled projects. I hope Gary is right and it is done by the time that winter gets serious. I think this is the first “down to the studs” project where I started with a sled that was complete and actually ran. Having said this, any of you...

    Hay Days

I saw this on the internet so it must be true. It was a post saying that Polaris is going to unveil three retro inspired sled looks at Hay Days. It could be fake but the photo I saw was a black Switchback Assault with XLT graphics. If it’s true, it looked pretty sharp. You guys will have to...

    Fear the Deere

I hope you ‘all are up for one more vintage go-around. I’m probably pushing my luck on whether I can finish this project but what the heck? I guess the worst that can happen is that I don’t get it done and I spend my last years in shame. I originally thought the title of this thread should be...

I'm also thinking burn from fertilizer or possible UFO landing damage.

    It's 2024, Let's Fish!

We had storms Friday and Saturday night the weekend we fished. It seemed to kind of shut them down on Saturday but on Sunday (the day these photos were taken) they showed a lot more interest. Overall, this has been a consistently solid summer of fishing. Based on the weather the last couple of...

    Polaris Mutt Mod

Get on it man! A restored wedge sled is a thing of beauty. There’s a reason these sleds have a huge following. I assume yours has a white hood. Loved the look of that sled.

Those VES 500’s were overachievers’ and the sleds rode and handled surprisingly well. There are sections of trail with a lot of tight corners where I’d still rather be on this chassis than my later models. While an obvious goal of the manufacturers is to attract new people to snowmobiling, I...

    Polaris Mutt Mod

I agree. I have a friend that starts his 79 El Tigre a couple of times a summer just to fill his garage with Klotz. Back in 2000 I snow checked a brand new 500 version of this 45th Anniversary model. Wickedly fast 500. Had it for several years and eventually sold it to Elf. He used it as a...

    Polaris Mutt Mod

You might be onto something there but the goal would have to be pretty low to be reachable, say maybe $10. Every now and then when I walk in the “Sled Den”, Neil Young’s album title “Rust Never Sleeps” comes to mind. I doubt if he came up with this in the context of vintage sleds but somehow...

    It's 2024, Let's Fish!

It might not be the only definition of happiness but being able to have a granddaughter get out fishing with you has to be one. She made the trek north from Texas for the second summer in a row and once again showed this northerner how to catch fish. I’d like to claim I’ve taught her something...

    AirVenture in Oshkosh Day 6

Gary, I hope you realize how much we enjoy these reports from “the man on the scene”. It’s something to look forward to every summer and the next best thing to being there. I can only hope that the tradition continues. Well Done!

Pretty funny. I guess things are just naturally a little slow on here in the summer. We are approaching the dog days of summer and I think people are really busy. I do suspect that sleds and sledding are still on the minds of quite a few people though. For me, there’s not much choice, I can’t...

2024 Edgar Hetteen Memorial Award -International Snowmobile Hall of Fame

As others have said, well deserved! I doubt there are many people in the snowmobiling world that touched as many people as John did. I'm sure he would be embarrased to hear this but he is a part of snowmobiling history.

    An Antique Farmall

I guess it’s habit for me to look at any acquisition with an eye towards what it would take to bring it back to its original glory. This one is pretty deep in the queue of potential projects but it’s hard to predict how things will turn out. I couldn't resist a few rips up and down the yard and...

    An Antique Farmall

Sorry for the diversion Gary but I guess it is a vintage tractor of sorts, it does have leaping deer heritage. Saved this beauty from the scrapper yesterday. Purrs like a kitten. Windshield, seat, and some basic maintenance, it should be ready for the trail again. Could be one of my main rider...

    An Antique Farmall

So true. I know several people in the area that are still using their Farmall F12’s and F14’s around the farm. Some still have steel wheels. At some point, my dad dropped a flat head Ford V8 truck motor in a F14 chassis. Sounded great, we used it for years.
