    Polaris Mutt Mod

Thanks Mark (y). The goal was to retain a little Polaris identity, rather than just a generic wrap. My wife is not a fan of it but then, her taste in everything, including men, has always been a little suspect. I have something I thought I’d run past you people. If this were a pure restoration...

    UP is getting pounded!

Looks like this is starting out to be one crazy winter. Seems like it's snowing everywhere and especially in the LES areas. Even over here in MN I'll be blowing the driveway for the second time tomorrow. I agree - bring it on!

    Polaris Mutt Mod

This shop space hog is finally back together so out it goes and I can set things up to get some real work done. On the actual project front, I’ve been spending most of my time in Cleat-Land. Turns out I really needed 21 replacement cleats but I ended up pulling 25 off the donor tracks because...

My First Snowmobile was a .....

I got a kick out of your story about how much the old Johnson would pull. My dad also had a 67 Skee-Horse. It was well used when he bought it and it didn’t come with a seat so he built a bench seat and added a sofa cushion. It was like riding a couch and about the same size. He used to trap...

    Later the Flip!

I don't think we got as much snow as ND (or the wind) but I think it's flipped in northern MN. With the forecast temps over the next week or so, this probably isn't going anywhere.

    It's Veteran's Day & We Thank You

Yes! Thank you Vets! I doubt there are many people on this site that either aren't a Vet, related to a Vet, or know a Vet.

Good one. No, I'm afraid the old Skee-Horse is too far gone. After 50 years in the woods it looks like a relic from a lost civilization.

My First Snowmobile was a .....

It’s really fun to read about the first/early sleds people owned and the memories they have of them. The first sled I can actually claim to owning was a 68 Johnson Skee-Horse that I managed to put back together from a bunch of boxes of parts and a chassis. At best, it could manage 16 mph...

    Walleye Fishing gone wild

What a monster! Took some real skill (and patience) to get that beast in with light tackle. I'm sure it made for an exciting experience.

Good times for sure! I’ve pulled 5 cleats off the donor track so I’m down to only 90 rivets left to remove. Of course, I’ll eventually have another 120 to install, plus a few more to replace questionable rivets on the cleats I kept The track belts are in pretty good shape for a 50-year-old...

    What's New with You?

Congratulations! Now that is a Halloween treat.

    Polaris Mutt Mod

Happy Halloween! Seemed like the perfect occasion to grab a power tool so I spent a few hours today grinding, and drilling rivets to remove the 20 broken track cleats. Now I just need to remove 20 good cleats from a donor track, get them cleaned/painted and installed. Sounds easy but it’s a...

    Polaris Mutt Mod

Sorry guys, it’s just my sick vintage humor at work here. It really is only a two cylinder motor, although there is a third cylinder laying on the tunnel so it could be considered a three cylinder sled. Wish it were at real triple though. When I lived in the Twin Cities I was spoiled in that I...

I probably should consider it. After all, I guess it’s technically one of those hard to find three cylinder vintage sleds.

    Polaris Mutt Mod

Scored this 75 Colt parts machine from my cousin today. Some might consider it junk: pan is rusted out, motor is stuck, rewind is shot, track is locked up, tank is cracked, and seat is rotten. But why quibble over a few minor imperfections when it’s free and it still has several usable parts.

    Polaris Mutt Mod

It's just a guess, but I'm thinking there's a good chance it was a 72 ATX, last year of the open hood motors. That's a lot of motor for such a tiny sled, had to be blast to ride. Looking at what the triple cylinder version is going for now, you probably wish you still had it. The small...

    Canada Fishing is Back

Well done! Beautiful fish - I'm wondering if you were at one of the lakes further north in Ontario. That Walleye looks to have darker coloring than I typically see on Lake of the Woods. Had to be a heck of a trip, catching that many nice Walleyes.

A lot of guys are still out there throwing a line in the water but the soft water fishing is over for me so it’s time to start dealing with the multi-page list of projects that need to get done on the home front. It may not be the best idea but my plan is to do some time-slicing on activities...

    And so it begins.....

The scene in the backyard in Lake of the Woods County MN this morning. Of course, a person can’t read too much into it but it is a sign of things to come. For some reason, it was a little weird to see snow again. Maybe it’s because it was 71 degrees on Tuesday.

When It's Time to say Goodbye

I agree with what has already been said, not a dry eye. We have had dogs for over 50 years so we've had to say goodbye to a number of furry family members and it never gets easier. I have never forgotten the day I've had to say goodbye to each one of them and I can understand why some people...
