    The Cat is Back

Funny stuff Gary. I remember hearing this song back in the day and it always made me smile. It might have been a little flawed but the man had a plan. If I'm ever able to pull off a project I'd like to do, it might come together a lot like the guy's Cadillac.

    The Cat is Back

Now that is funny (and somewhat accurate). Sorry guys, as I told Gary, I have been checking in from time-to-time, but haven’t had much worthwhile to add to the conversation. I have been kicking around a couple of ideas, both of which are potentially more challenging than my usual efforts, at...

My Third (and Fourth) vintage sled projects..... 1979 Polaris TXL 340 @ Centurion 500

Hey Kirk, I haven't checked in for a while. Hope you're doing well. I'm guessing you're getting busy with spring projects and taking some time away from the sleds. I have quite a list of things to do myself so the project sleds will have to take a back seat until I get a few things checked off...

    Canada Fishing is Back

Yeah, came across Friday for the first time without a test. I’d forgotten how simple it used to be. Talking to people at the little general store, they’re really excited about the season after losing two summers. Still 2 – 3 ft. of ice so I took ‘old reliable’ out and finished up my ice fishing...

    Canada Fishing is Back

As a lot of you probably know, Canada is eliminating the pre-arrival COVID test requirement as of April 1st. Unfortunately, a friend and I had planned a fishing trip on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods for last weekend so we had to do the test thing one more time. It worked out for the...

    The Cat is Back

Appreciate the comments guys! It’s really fun to hear about the memories that people have of these old sleds when they weren’t so old. I love the growl of those Cats, there’s no mistaking it. My friend’s Cat might be a bit of a sleeper because he discovered that it has a 440 top end and I can...

    The Cat is Back

In future years, I promise I will stop spamming the site with my goofy little videos but this season has been kind of special for me After not being able to ride at all last season and wondering all fall if my riding days were over, I’ve just felt a need to share my joy of finally climbing on a...

Interesting story on world record attempt

Yeah Gary, remarkably nice people. Everyone I talked to that was involved in the event thanked me for coming out to watch The time/distance people at the event initially gave me the total distance as 2120 but I see the website lists it as 2104, which may be the number that goes in the record...

Interesting story on world record attempt

I know I said this before but this was really cool to see in person. He blew away the original solo mileage record goal over two hours early. Once he broke that I think he might have actually picked up the pace a little to really push up the mileage total. You wouldn’t think there would be much...

Interesting story on world record attempt

Checked out the record-breaking attempt this afternoon. It was pretty cool that a person could just walk right up to the action. If you watched any of the live feed, it was evident that there were lulls in the action, which gave me a chance to talk to some of the people involved and check out...

Interesting story on world record attempt

I did eventually hear back from them via FB, they said the track is located 7 – 8 miles out from Sportsman’s Lodge, which is on the river, roughly 2 miles from the south shore. That puts the track somewhere around 5 – 6 miles off shore. Think it might be a little further than that but not a...

Snow Storm Feb 21 and 22

The snow arrived a little earlier in our part of Northern MN than parts further south/east. Only a few inches on top of what we already had but the wind was crazy. Made for some impressive drifts on the islands off the south shore of Lake of the Woods.

Sounds like a little more horsepower to me. Pretty amazing that you have it back together already. Sorry for the dumb question ,but do those TXL cylinders get any type of plating after re-boring? (Nikasil, chrome, etc.) On my 440 free-air, they were Nikasil plated when the top end was re-done...

    Day of the Deere

This is a great summary of the experience and although might be a little hard to understand why, people loved it. Looking at production/shipment numbers from Snowgoer for the model years 1970 through 1972, manufacturers produced/shipped roughly 1,700,000 sleds. That’s a lot of old iron. Talk...

    Day of the Deere

Other than the Mikuni conversion, one repainted hood, and a duct tape seat cover, both sleds are basically untouched since they rolled off the John Deere Horicon Works assembly line. These sleds are tough and a lot of fun to ride. The John Deere influence really showed through in their...
