    The Future of our sport

The wife and I personally belong to 3 clubs in Vilas. We use to belong to just one in the the town we have our weekend home. We tried to help them brush trails but they weren't very welcoming, very clicky is the best way to describe it. We are still members but don't participate in any trail...

Well for those who are wondering and hopefully a few on here were finding out trails in Vilas were pretty good yesterday. That March sun is taking is taking it's toll. Roads that were ok in the morning were not in the afternoon, typical of March riding. We rode St.Germain,Sayner,Star lake, land...

Next few weeks of the season...

Yeah kind of funny being on jd Snow Central and hearing people complain about snow. If I had to guess some of the biggest snows in the Northwoods happen in March. The atmosphere normally has a lot more moisture to work with in March and the average temperature is still in the 30's. We are...

Mezz weren't you up there I believe it was April of 2008 when they got hammered with snow for 3 days. If I remember correctly the snow was pretty much wiped out then the higher areas got close to 80" or so.

That is the problem in March you need to keep getting snow every 3 days or so to keep roads and south facing trails rideable. In 23 some of the best riding I did was in March. Trails aren't as crowded and the clubs kept trails smooth. We rode on the 31st and it was still good. Nicer...

It will be interesting to see what happens. I have my doubts on those numbers. It seems like they are getting less and less accurate instead of more with technology. I have ridden in March any year the trails are open in March. I have seen a good amount of sleds out not like January but more...

Mezz you should know better than most of us winter isn't normally totally over until some time in May. You will get your warm ups then you get your cold air with snow then warm back up. Even the brown year south range got almost 18" the last week of March after barely any snow all winter. The...

Well Paul you will be heading my direction while I go up your direction. Hoping to trailer up to upper Michigan for a little sledding if not maybe go to the races. Enjoy your time with the little one.

Yeah looks like the weather is going to corporate for this. Much colder by Tuesday night. They cold make snow if needed and good temps for the races. Looks like after Monday temps being a bit below or near average for a while.

I will be shocked if Vilas leaves them open. I know they can reopen the trails if conditions improve just not sure they will. It has been a long season for a lot of the clubs up there with the late November storm doing so much damage then the storm after Christmas doing some damage. I think a...

    Lincoln County/Langlade County 3-2-26

I hear you on this one. After 2 bad seasons was really hoping to get most of March in. Pretty much every year I am wishing it was longer. Could go to end of March then I am wishing it would go to mid April and so on. Just live being out on the sled and spending quality time with the wife on the...

I would have to agree with pending some big weather change this is it. Some trails are still amazing while some trails have a ice base with a couple of inches of snow. The trails with the couple of inches on them will be pure ice by next weekend. It has been a really good season would of loved...

Seeing the same as you but I have definitely taken a wait and see approach with the weather. Seems like the weather guessers are more wrong than they have ever been. With that being said we are getting ready into bonus season, anything after the 1st is a nice bonus.

You are correct Paul you wouldn't of guessed it was in the upper 40's last weekend. The new snow pretty much erased that. Trails are a little more icy but and some of the roads are thin now. I keep seeing people asking how are the roads. Once you get to late February into March you should start...

    UP trail 160

Yeah I am not sure what's going on in Sayner either. They haven't groomed at all since last Friday. I do know they borrowed a groomer to Northern Hornshoe in Lac Du Flambeau. There trails were pretty good especially the grade. All of Vilas trails I have ridden so far this week have been good...

    UP trail 160

Well we ended up taking 15 to Boulder to 6 Presque Isle. Took 1 to to 2 which was in excellent shape. Took 2 to 160. Took 160 to the overlook. It was pretty rough along most of GRTA trails. I don't think 160 has been groomed in some time. We ran into another couple at the overlook and he highly...
