Regarding having precipitation soak into the ground, the latest frost depth report from Duluth (reported yesterday) is 22". Does that mean you don't reach frost until you get 22" into the ground? Frost depth is 5" in Land O' Lakes, for comparison.

13" just a few miles outside of Silver Bay, MN (along the north shore). Some forecasts are saying another 5-10" possible today/tonight from Silver Bay up to Grand Marais, MN.
Wow! The NWS office in Duluth is now saying Duluth area could get 2-5" from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, with some favored spots along the north shore getting up to 6-7".
I remember a coworker that had a "Rainy Day" calendar on his office wall. He found a website that predicted the chance of rain for our city each day for a full calendar year! I never checked in with him, but I suspect it was just a tad inaccurate, lol.
